2102.0. "Problems configuring ASE 1.4 on OSF 4.0b" by NNTPD::"[email protected]" (John Davenport) Sat May 31 1997 19:41
I am having problems configuring ASE V1.4 on two 2100A which
has OSF 4.0B installed. I have not installed any of the 4.0b
patches (DUV40BAS00003-19970425) as the install notes
and web page www.zk3.dec.com/dupatchwww/ do not indicate
any patches relate.
The specific problem I am having is that after I:
1. install OSF 4.0b on both machines,
define network such that each machine has two fddi
adapters (fta0, fta1) - fta0 is the network which
the host name is associated with, fta1 is an internal
network on which the two 2100s may communicate.
The hosts file has all four entries, the hosts.equiv
file also has all four entries (2 for each machine).
2. run ntpsetup on both machines.
3. install ASE 1.4 on both machines. The SCSI default is
accepted which remaps SCSI1 to 16 on both machines. This
is the scsi connected to the disk cluster we want to
share. The OSF is rebuilt by the install script, moved to
root and the machines are rebooted. Time sync works.
4. ase_mgr is run on 1 machine - Managing the ASE option allowed
us to add both members as identified by the fta1 host names.
The result of creating the members was:
Member Status
Member: Host Status: Agent Status:
gatekeeperf UP RUNNING
gatekeeperg UP RUNNING
5. And finally, I ran the cluster_map_create program and was
greeted with the following:
# cluster_map_create -full
Members running are: ( gatekeeperf gatekeeperg )
Permission denied.
Permission denied.
Permission denied.
Cluster or ASE member gatekeeperf is either unreachable or
improperly configured.
I get this exact same error when I run cluster_map_create from
either gatekeeperf or gatekeeperg.
I am 99.9% sure that there is nothing incorrect in the
/etc/hosts, /etc/hosts.equiv, and rc.config files of either
machine. What could I have missed?
The following /var/adm/syslogd files may be useful - these are the clean
log files produced by going thru the install-config process once.
Thanks in advance for any insight into these issue::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

ASE I/O Bus Renumbering Tool
It appears that there are no changes in the scsi configuration since this
tool (ase_fix_config) was last run. Do you want to change or view the
scsi configuration anyway? [n]: y
Shared I/O Bus Selection Menu
At least one shared I/O bus must exist in the ASE. These I/O buses must be
connected to all ASE members and named the same on each. Controllers that are
not supported by ASE are not given as options. NOTE: Internal I/O controllers
are not supported by ASE and should not be selected.
Select the controllers that define the shared ASE I/O buses.
