Hi, I would expect this note could be a good help for people who look for existing patches foer a specific ASE/TCR version. As you know, when a customer buys for a UNIX cluster machine, it is generally for a critical need. When there is a bug on ASE, it is important to know if this problem was already corrected by a patch, before to troubleshoot further and eventually esca late the problem. I would know exactly what is and what will be the politic for the patch for ASE/TCR in the future. We have some patches for ASE V1.3. Do we have all official patches, I don't now. We have some patches for TCRV1.4A from guru, but what for TCR 1.4 ??? We don't know.. I had a personnal experience where we had a big problem on ASE 1.2A to an important customer site , and when we escalated the problem, the engeneering immedately sent us a patch which was not referenced , but which existed Please, help us , so that we can know which patchs exist, official and unofficial. So that we have a catalog of what already exist and decide how to react for an ASE problem Thanks for your reply Gilles.

Hi, Not that mine is the official policy, but this may help... First, there is no way that we can keep the field informed about unofficial patches. a. The patch may have a bug, and installing it before it has been tested could cause more problems. Especially when we (USEG) don't know which customers have it. It would end up being a support nightmare. b. We just don't have the time to get the information to the field, and we would never have the time to maintain the information so that it would be correct (or at least somewhat up-to-date). The real issue is getting the official patch kits out quickly, and ensuring that the time between unofficial (test) patch and official patch is as short as possible. The mechanism for informing the field about patches is via the patch kits. Also, there will be NO patches for v1.4. A decision was made some time ago that v1.4a would replace v1.4. Therefore, the patches will be for v1.4a ONLY. Please have your customers upgrade to v1.4a and install the patches. Rob Marshall USEG |
