2064.0. "host status monitor and de500?" by CSC32::A_SHERLOCK () Thu May 15 1997 16:29
A customer has two 4100s, each running Digital UNIX v4.0b and TCR v1.4.
Until recently, each system had three network interfaces (two 10 meg half
duplex, one de500 in fast, full duplex mode).
If asehsm detected a link failure on either of the two 10 meg interfaces,
it sent a notification to the ASE alert script. However, if the
network cable on the de500 was disconnected, there was no response from
asehsm. The ni_status_awk script is configured to disconnect the host if
a network failure is detected on any subnet, which worked fine for the
two 10 meg subnets, but not for the de500. It seems that asehsm cannot
detect a failure on the fast ethernet adapter.
The customer recently upgraded his two 10 meg interfaces to de500s. He
now has 3 de500-aa boards on each system. Now asehsm does not detect a
failure on any of his interfaces. If he disconnects the network cable, the
link light goes out, but asehsm does not respond.
Has anyone heard of a problem with the host status monitor and de500s?
thanks!
