Hi, We'll have to install ASE in a customer with the following configuration: 2 x 2100 5/300 with 2 CPU's each and 1GB Memory running Digital Unix V4.0A with 1 x SW300 with 43GB of disk using RAID 5/LSM/ADVFS. Will be created 2 services: One Disk Service that will be used by a COBOL Database and one DRD that will be used by SYBASE Database. Questions: - Does anyone using Sybase V11.02 with ASE ? Or does someone knows something about if it works or not with ASE? - Is DRD the best option to configure a service for Sybase? As far as I know, Sybase wants Raw devices. Any help are welcomed Tanks Wander

Hi Wander, Is SYBASE working withe ASE ? Yes, there is a lot of notes here about it. Is DRD service the best way to implement SYSBASE (raw device) NO, NO, NO! DRD is a service provided by TRUCLUSTER software and NOT by ASE software. Nowadays, only ORACLE PARALLEL SERVER (OPS) and later INFORMIX PARALLEL SERVER (XPS) are able to use DRD. DRD is using Memory Channel hardware to give access to the raw disk from ALL THE MEMBERS of the cluster. SYBASE is not (yet) supporting DRD. But, ASE (thus without Memory Channel / DRD ) can provide access to RAW devices that SYBASE likes to use. Hope it is clear , Manu. | |||||

Thanks Manu and sorry for my wrong notion about DRD. Actually the customer will not have TruCluster, just ASE. I'll try Sybase Conference about the questions related to it. Thanks again. Wander |
