There are some new Qlogic based UltraSCSI adapters coming
that will be qualified for ASE/TCR. None of the existing
adapters are Ultra.

As for devices, there will be an Ultra HSZ, and several of
the individual disks starting with RZ1xx-yy (but not all of
them). For example, the RZ1BA-BS is an Ultra disk you can
get today that is not planned to be ASE certified.

Sorry for the generallyness of this reply, but none of the
details (like part numbers) has been announced yet.

1995.22.5 TB of storage will be clusterized !SPANIX::JULIANRALPHAbet = Our bet on ALPHAMon Apr 21 1997 05:2721
Fred,

thanks for your answers, but I would like to have more details whenever
they exist due to the requirements made to us by one of our fastest growing
customers in Spain, Telefnica Mviles.

That company is one of the two operators for cellular phones. They have 1.5
TB of data spread thru a couple of Oracle databases on an Alpha OpenVMS
cluster. Their storage needs grow up to 100 GB per month. Currently they have
a mixture of CI and SCSI.

They are planning to migrate to Digital UNIX in one year timeframe, when
TruCluster Wave 4 is on the market, and they want to order the new storage so
it can be reused when UNIX is finally installed. This is why I am asking for
UltraSCSI adapters (KZPBA-**), controllers (HSZ70-**) and disks (RZ1**-**)
qualification for TruCluster.

Storage will announce new UltraSCSI products (specially KZPBA-DB and HSZ70) in
September 15.

When ASE/TCR engineering will announce support for UltraSCSI?
