Note 9318.0 load share network? No replies

My customer is an Internet Service Providor (ISP) and wants to be able
to load share connections from the internet across 2 network
interfaces. Redundancy is catered for by using ASE but not at the
network level, if an interface card fails, rather than failing over the
cluster, they want to continue normally.

I do not see LSF suiting these requirements, so I would like to be able
to configure 2 network interfaces into 1 logical interface. Apparently
SGI have this facility, do we ?

    Regards
    John

Hi

Can you provide a picture of what you want? I don't understand
the network part of question. Is this really a cluster question or
a networking question?

1976.2Logical network interface?SIOG::J_LONGWed Apr 02 1997 06:0425
    Eric,

    I have a Unix Cluster comprising of 2 Alpha 4100's (D_UNIX 4.0A), both
systems contain 2 network interface cards. The systems host an ISP
solution and currently have only 1 network card configured on both systems.
The systems host WWW, Mail and News services and have about 20 alias IP
addresses on the configured network cards.

My customer wants to configure a second network interface on both
systems, this requires another IP address to be defined for each
interface. As the services (mail news www) are tied to an address we
will not obtain any additional contingancy by performing this.

We would like both interfaces on a single system to provide contingancy
for each other, because the application ties itself to an address, then
the application is also tied to an interface module. We would basically
like two network interfaces on the same system to behave as one. This
would provide additional bandwidth and contingancy. I am unaware of any
such facility but have been informed that SGI have this capability.

    Regards
    John Long

    Hi,

Have a look in 1970.0 if it solved your problem. I think Eric has
copied the directory to xirtlu.zk3.dec/com in /pub/ase/examples...
