I have a customer (a division of AT"&T), who is using a 1000A Alphaserver for firewall and tunnelling server, he wants to be able to provide failover capability. He has asked me the following: 1. Does he need additional network interfaces other than the current interface that he has on each system for the internal network and external network ? That is he has two network interfaces/system currently (one for the Red and one for the Blue) My answer: no he does not need an additional network interface 2. Will the ALtavista firewall and Tunnelling support failover transparently? Is it just a matter of the surviving system detecting failure and starting the firewall and tunnelling services via scripts? Will the ip aliasing work the same as for other ASE configurations? Thanks in advance for your help. Forough Ghahramani 609-497-1773

1. Does he need additional network interfaces other than the current interface that he has on each system for the internal network and external network ? That is he has two network interfaces/system currently (one for the Red and one for the Blue) My answer: no he does not need an additional network interface Yes, this will work. I would configure the member name to the network interfaces that correspond with the internal side of the firewall. I would also consider the expected network traffic on the networks. If this is high, does it make sense to dedicate a a spearate network between the two systems for ASE taffic? I do not have numbers for this, just something to consider when you set it up/design it. I have no experience with the AltaVista firewall or Tunneling products to say if they will work transparently with ASE. -- Greg [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] | |||||

Hi The Firewall folks have tested with ASE...it is configured as part of a service NSIS due to customer localazations that have to be considered. I suggest you contact the Altavista folks for more information. |
