I have been asked to provide the technical details (to ultimately
produce a quote) for a fairly large (120GB mirrored, 240GB total) ASE cluster
that will be used as an NFS service for a development team.
Sun will probably be quoting 9GB drives (I am assuming this, the customer has
not let me know). The issues are not necessarily speed, but less disks to
manage, less hassles, etc.
I know that we are about to release 9GB drives, and I could probably push to
get a part number and a price to quote them, but will they be "ok" for ASE
clusters soon after they are released? Perhaps there are no issues and ASE
won't care what drive is out there, but I suspect there will be a
qualification process like any other significant platform enhancement. Am I
right?
Thanks and Regards,
-BAP

| I suppose ASE Eng. wants to test them first before letting the world know
wether and how they are supported.
If you put them behind a HSZ[45]0, ASE won't care and you have to deal with
the StorageWorks folks about this.
For that many disks I'm sure you would want some sort of RAID controller
anyway I suppose ...
