One of my customers, Reuters, wish to extend the capability of the Cluster Monitor (or some other ASE daemon) so that it can check the health of some daemons of their own which monitor the accessability of an ORACLE database which serves authentication credentials to web browsers on the intranet. Is there, or will there be, an API which allows them to hook their own routines into ASE at this level ? They are still on UNIX V3.2G so they need the capability in ASE 1.3 [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

Hi I don't expect there to be more 1.3* releases on ASE (ie on V3.2*) Your options as I see it are: - Use Polycenter Watchdog to monitor the apps, and have it do appropriate functions to restart of failover services - Write your own monitor, and have it restart or cause ase to failover (or halt the system) - File an ECP, with very specific request for new functionality... of course the ECP requires a strong business justification. I think the first 2 options are most viable...and could be done via an SI or CSS contract if needed. regards Eric | |||||

Eric, Thanks for suggestions. I will explore the Watchdog option and get back to you later for further help if necessary. Regards, Euan [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] |
