1842.0. "AS1000A, Primary/Secondary PCI Performance?" by NCMAIL::DOIRON () Fri Jan 24 1997 10:34
I currently have a pair of AlphaServer 1000A's that are going to be
installed as a cluster. There are two HSZ40s shared between the two
systems.
Currently, there is a video card, DE500 and KZPSA on the primary PCI bus,
with the second KZPSA on the secondary PCI bus.
On the second system, there is an additional KZPAA for a tape drive
which throws off the bus numbering between the two systems.
I know this can be fixed during the ASE installation, but the customer
wants to be able to see the same devices from >>> as he does from UNIX.
And the only way to do this is to have busses numbered the same. Since
the Video card and DE500 must be on the primary PCI bus, the only way
to get the numbering identical is to put both KZPSAs on the secondary
bus (or to buy another KZPAA to make both systems identical).
My question is are there any performance implications for having both
KZPSAs on the secondary bus
Thanks in advance
-Ron

| Hi
You might also ask this in the wrksys::mikasa notes conference...they
may have a better idea on performance related to the bus...
My first guess is it won't matter much...
