7086.0. "DTF job hang " by OSOSPS::SHIRAISHI (Takashi West Japan SPS) Tue May 06 1997 04:10

Hi,

I've a question about MVS/DTF.

My customer transfer file between VMS and MVS using G/W-ST and DTF.
When server session wasn't establish state(between VMS/DTF Server and MVS/DTF),
he tried to use DTF from MVS (using command processor).
His job was hang.
His job log only shows following message.

DTF0612I A SERVER SESSION IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS REQUEST

So , he ased me a following question.
Are there any workaround from hang ?

Thanks in advance.

The server he wants to use _MUST_ have a server session up so an IBM
        initiated transfer can work.

>Are there any workaround from hang ?

We need to know some more specifics, such as:
	1) Example of the MVS batch job he is executing that contains the
	   DTF IBM initiated copy.
	2) Network configuration from the IBM system to the OVMS system.
	3) What DTF version and ECO level is the customer running?
	4) What release & ECO level is he running for DTF/OVMS?
	5) What version/release does the customer have for MVS/ESA & VTAM.
	6) How far did the transfer progress? Was there a complete or partial
file created on either the OVMS node or the MVS system as a result
	   of the transfer?
	7) Did the SYSPRINT for the DTF address space show any error messages?
	8) Is your reference to "job log" above the SYSTSOUT output? Please
provide us with the exact listing of the batch step and it's
	   associated output.

Thanks
Craig

Hi Craig,

Thank you for your reply.
Before answer your questions,I'm very sorry for miss information.

>My customer transfer file between VMS and MVS using G/W-ST and DTF.
>When server session wasn't establish state(between VMS/DTF Server and MVS/DTF),
>he tried to use DTF from MVS (using command processor).
>His job was hang.
And no messages are logged in his job log.

>His job log only shows following message.
>
>DTF0612I A SERVER SESSION IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS REQUEST
 This is miss info.

when the case was occured, his situation was following.

 0. server session between DTF Server and MVS/DTF was established.
 1. VMS system hang up (because of system disk's free block was empty)
 2. a user submit a job on MVS
 3. stop/start MVS/DTF
 4. the user re-submit the job
 5. regain free space
 6. stop/start MVS/DTF
 7. he submit it three times

In "4" situation DTF0612I message was received and it terminated.(not hang)

In "2" situation no messages ware logged and his job hang.
He asks me the question at "2" situation. (I'm sorry)

 His question is

At "2" situaion, are there any workaround from hang ?

I'm verry sorry for you again.

Was the OVMS Server dispatcher session still active to DTF/MVS?

> 2. a user submit a job on MVS
> 3. stop/start MVS/DTF

Was this done because the batch job was hung?
Was the OVMS Server dispatcher session active just before bringing
	DTF/MVS down?

> 4. the user re-submit the job

At this time was the OVMS Server dispatcher session active to DTF/MVS?

Does this mean that the OVMS system was rebooted?
If not, please explain _exactly_ what was done to achieve this?

Do you mean the batch job? Each time it was submitted, was the OVMS
Server dispatcher session active to DTF/MVS?

DTF/MVS does _NOT_ have a timeout for copy request sent to the
OVMS Server via the dispatcher session.
If you want a timeout capability, please submit an IPMT for both
the DTF/MVS and DTF/OVMS products making a product enhancement request
to implement a timeout for IBM initiated copies.

	We still need this.

The latest PTF is SD310079. I don't know what ECO contains
		that PTF.

I believe the latest version is DTF/OVMS V3.2. I don't know if there is
a Japanese verion of that product.
