7069.0. "UPgrade VMS problem" by HGOSPS::MASCOTTANG () Mon Apr 14 1997 07:28

Customer will upgrade his system from V5.5-2 to VMS V6.2. The system is
a load host of DEMSA and run X25 router software. He also run SNA software
on his system. He would like to ask the following questions.

1) Does the DEMSA support DECNET/OSI V6.3 ECO5 under VMS V6.2 ? As I know
the X25 router 2000 software is only supported under VMS V5.5-2. Can it
   work on DECNET/OSI V6.3 ?

2) If not, Does it have another software that can use DEMSA under DECNET/OSI
V6.3 ECO5. If it has another method, can it support SNA/VMS software and
SNA LU 6.2 and SNA 3270 terminal emulator ?

3) If DEMSA is phased out. Can customer only use DECNIS ? Because customer
feels that there is low performance on DECNIS. Does it have another
   faster DECNIS model ?

4) Can customer use syn board to transfer SNA data. Is it faster than DECNIS ?

Any advice should be appreciated.

Re: .0

The DEMSA is obsolete for use with anything other than the DECnet/SNA
Gateway -ST and DEC SNA Domain Gateway software/functionality.

It is not clear from your questions, but if you are looking for X.25-
connectivity ask the question in another (DECnet/OSI?) conference.

There is no SNA-connectivity offered on the DECnis-platform.

How can the customer 'feel' that the DECnis is low on performance ?
Sounds like absolute nonsense, to me!

>Use of 'syn board to transfer SNA data'

Only on the VAX platform and up and until VMS V6.2, it is possible
to use VMS/SNA via an installed synchronous interface. There is no
such solution for OpenVMS V7.

Hope this helps, /\Pim.
