| hi,
performance testing was done over a 16Mbps TR using a 3172 connection to the
IBM system. we also tested an IBM 3746 (TIC-3) connection to the mainframe
on the same ring.
note that the Alpha system was a 2100. the Peer Server was installed on
the Digital UNIX box where DTFDU was installed (i.e. no TCP/DECnet).
(the report is pending approval.) i am tracking down the card model used
on the 2100 and will post.
rates ranged between ~5.6Mbps to as high as ~15Mbps. record size is a BIG
factor in the difference. 80 byte records were at the low range. the next
step, 512 bytes, yielded between 10Mbps and 15Mbps rates (larger RUsize, 16K,
contributing to the higher value).
the 3172 connection typically edged out the TIC-3.
there remains much to be learned about various configurations. of course, our
lab is never going to agree with the customer environ. so, extrapolate at
your own risk.
