| Good question! I don't know the answer. I think it has to do with
the Access Server being a replacement for older Digital Gateways
which were primarily used with the OpenVMS Access Routines.
The product requirements for the Access Server were to support
the OpenVMS Access Routines. No mention of UNIX Routines.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

7061.2 | I don't see any technical problems... | GNOMO::JOSEF | Jose Fernandez. ACT Spain | Wed Apr 09 1997 06:00 | 10 |
| By the way, as far as I know all the routines in Unix use the same
protocol to speak to the old SNA gateways and the Peer Server as the
VMS rouines do.
So, I don't see any technical problem for the Unix routines to use the
new Access Server as well as the VMS routines.
Am I wrong?

| Jose,

No. You are not wrong.

Me neither. Technically any client which talks GAP 3.0 or 2.1 should be able to
use the Access Server. I have tried -albeit not thoroughly- Unix DTF products
and Unix DECWindows TE and didn't see any problems. Of course certifying it
for Unix clients is a different issue.

7061.4 | V1.0 does not support access from Digital UNIX clients | EDSCLU::GARROD | IBM Interconnect Engineering | Wed Apr 09 1997 11:36 | 9 |
| V1.0 won't formally support access from DIGITAL UNIX clients. No
testing has been done on this configuration because Digital only
asked for OpenVMS access routine access in V1.0. I'm not sure if
DIGITAL is planning to specify UNIX client access for a follow on
release. The product manager is DELNI::OTA (Brian Ota). If you think
Digital UNIX client access is required please make you wishes known
to Brian.

7061.5 | Product Manager input? | GNOMO::JOSEF | Jose Fernandez. ACT Spain | Wed Apr 09 1997 11:59 | 5 |
| So, can the product manager give a little light to this stuff?
Thanks in advance,

7061.6 | Not officially now. | DELNI::BARBER_MINGO | Let me DANCE for you | Mon Jun 02 1997 11:53 | 8 |
| Hello,
I'm not a product manager. Terminal emulation and RJE appeared
to work from Digital Unix. Apertus, EDS, Microsoft and Digital (Unix)
representatives would have to get together to get it officially
supported. They would, of course, need business justifications to make
all of this happen. I guess they would look at it for "UNITY"

We are not currently planning on supporting Unix through the Digital
SNA Access Server for Windows NT. We are looking into this as a
potential at a later date. Can you give me some insight into your
customers who would be interested in this?
