7030.0. "Domaing Gwy-CT accross 3745 ?" by IB004::COLL () Mon Mar 03 1997 05:28

    	Hi,

My customer was working with a Channelserver-II attached to a 3090.
Now, they moved the mainframe to U.K, so that they replaced the
    	Channelserver by a Gateway-st, which access the 3090 accross a 3745
FEP, connected to it by a channel extensor.

The 3745 still has a channel available. They ask if it
would be possible to take advantage of this existing channel to
connect the Domain Gwy Channelserver to the 3090 accross it.

The SNA Domain Gateway SPD 38.69 states that the
Gateway-ST connects to a 37xx FEP.But there is nothing about connecting
    a channelserver accross a FEP.
Possibly the available channel of the 3745 is aimed to
provide redundant mainframe connectivity rather than provide channel
connectivity to external SNA nodes, but i'm not familiar with such
    devices.
Is somebody aware of the possibility of such configuration?

    	Any input will be appreciated.
    	regards.
    	Albert.

No. The protocols which make up the "data link" are different.
The physical characteristics are also wrong. The DG can only be the
"secondary" (to oversimplify a bit); the NCP is also only capable of
being "secondary".
