Hello, We have a customer Hongkong Bank, who is using a SNA microserver DEMSA for access to an IBM-compatible mainframe : VAX 7820 | --------------------------------- | DEMSA | X.25 | IBM Mainframe On the VAX, VMS 5.52 is used, and also SNA VMS and SNA LU6.2 on VMS. They are considering to phase out the DEMSA box and replace it by a gateway machine, maybe a small Alphaserver. But they are concerned about the performance of an Alpha-based gateway compared to DEMSA. Do we have any figures to show them ? Also, would someone like to abvise me if the followings are what are needed in the Alpha box: 1. a synchronous card, either DNSES or PBXDI, depending on I/O bus 2. SNA Peer Server on Digital Unix 3. SNA LU6.2 programming interface on Digital Unix Please advise. Best regards Chris

No - I don't believe that numbers have been published. > Also, would someone like to abvise me if the followings are what are > needed in the Alpha box: > > 1. a synchronous card, either DNSES or PBXDI, depending on I/O bus For what, X25? If the Peer Server is local to the mainframe, you could use Token Ring instead of SNA. > 2. SNA Peer Server on Digital Unix Yes. > 3. SNA LU6.2 programming interface on Digital Unix APPC V3.1(just released). Craig |
