7005.0. "Peer Server Upgrade to UNIX 4.0" by NQOS01::nqsrv225.nqo.dec.com::Rich Rose () Thu Feb 06 1997 11:02

My customer is running SNA Peer Server V1.3 under Digital UNIX 3.2G. They
would like to upgrade to UNIX 4.0. It is my understanding that Peer Server
V1.4 will work with the next release of UNIX and is scheduled for the
April/May timeframe. What do we need to do to upgrade from Peer Server 1.3 to
1.4? Does this require a completely new install or is there an upgrade
procedure?

Thanks,

Rich Rose

7005.1Same for all productsEDSCLU::GARRODIBM Interconnect EngineeringThu Feb 06 1997 13:158
    When V1.4 is released you'll just do a Peer Server installation
    on Digital UNIUX V4.

    I presume there is a way to upgrade V3.2G to V4.0 without blowingh away
    all the /var/sna/... directories etc so that the new install can pick
    up existing config files.

7005.2Have we ever done it?NQOS01::nqsrv203.nqo.dec.com::Rich RoseThu Feb 13 1997 08:146
From .1 it seems that no one has actually done this - even in the lab. Do we
have any experience going from UNIX 3.2G to UNIX 4.X and from Peer Server 1.3
to 1.4?

7005.3Asking for build of non-existant final kit.DELNI::BARBER_MINGOLet me DANCE for youTue Feb 18 1997 17:4817
    Hi,
    	Since there isn't a released product yet, no one could have
    done anything with 1.4 outside of the development environment.

    	One of my systems here was upgraded from 3.2g to 4.0A. We took
    backups of the configuration files, so that didn't matter.

    	As I understand it, it is EDS' call to support 4.0 whenever 1.4Peer
    comes out. You will still, however, have to do at least 2 kernel
    builds on your system. One will be to build the 4.0. A second,
    completely isolated issue will be to build a 1.4 peer server into the
    kernel. Either way, I wouldn't look to April for it. Look for the
    release of wandd - THEN look for the peer server that requires it.

    Luck,
    Cindi

7005.4No more kernel builds requiredEDSCLU::GARRODIBM Interconnect EngineeringTue Feb 18 1997 18:165
    Re .-1

    V1.4 of the Peer Server will not require a kernel build.

7005.5Oooh good news.DELNI::BARBER_MINGOLet me DANCE for youFri Feb 21 1997 13:369
    Hi,

        Wow! No more kernel builds for the new peer server? I like that.
    	So that's one less headache for the owner of the note.
    	Their only concern will be getting to 4.0A and using a
    network card supported on 4.0 by Digital unix.
    Can't wait till it ships.
