My customer is running SNA Peer Server V1.3 under Digital UNIX 3.2G. They would like to upgrade to UNIX 4.0. It is my understanding that Peer Server V1.4 will work with the next release of UNIX and is scheduled for the April/May timeframe. What do we need to do to upgrade from Peer Server 1.3 to 1.4? Does this require a completely new install or is there an upgrade procedure? Thanks, Rich Rose Sales Support - Albany New York [email protected]

When V1.4 is released you'll just do a Peer Server installation on Digital UNIUX V4. I presume there is a way to upgrade V3.2G to V4.0 without blowingh away all the /var/sna/... directories etc so that the new install can pick up existing config files. Dave

From .1 it seems that no one has actually done this - even in the lab. Do we have any experience going from UNIX 3.2G to UNIX 4.X and from Peer Server 1.3 to 1.4? Rich

Hi, Since there isn't a released product yet, no one could have done anything with 1.4 outside of the development environment. One of my systems here was upgraded from 3.2g to 4.0A. We took backups of the configuration files, so that didn't matter. As I understand it, it is EDS' call to support 4.0 whenever 1.4Peer comes out. You will still, however, have to do at least 2 kernel builds on your system. One will be to build the 4.0. A second, completely isolated issue will be to build a 1.4 peer server into the kernel. Either way, I wouldn't look to April for it. Look for the release of wandd - THEN look for the peer server that requires it. Luck, Cindi

Hi, Wow! No more kernel builds for the new peer server? I like that. So that's one less headache for the owner of the note. Their only concern will be getting to 4.0A and using a network card supported on 4.0 by Digital unix. Can't wait till it ships. Cindi |
