Some general and hopefull easy questions; A customer has a DECnet SNA Gateway CT. There are 3 VAX's all running or soon to be running OpenVMS 6.2. They are running an older version of DTF. They wish to use both IP and DECnet. From reading the SPD and other notes can someone confirm or comment on the following 1. The DTF software must be upgraded to Version 3.2. 2. They can use their existing SNA gateway hardware but must purchase an upgrade QP-LBR*A-01 that costs somewhere around $28,000. The customer has the following questions 1. Must any software be upgraded on the IBM side? If so, how do you get this software since I don't see any part numbers for it. 2. The customer wants to use both DECnet and IP. Is this the gateway software issue and does it support it? 3. Can DTF use DECnet and IP at the same time? 4. The IP stack the customer uses on the OpenVMS systems is Multinet. Will it work? Is this supported? If not supported what are the supported stacks? 5. Are there operations/administration procedures similar between the older gateway and the domain gateway? He is really asking if it is a lot of retraining.

I'll restrain myself to the mainframe side since I do not know enough about the client V3.2 enhancements or CT gateway capabilities: DTF software on the mainframe is not aware that tcp or decnet are being used. So, no specific mainframe upgrade is associated with DTF 3.2. DTF 3.1 will work. That said, please refer to SPD 60.54.00 for the product called DTF for Digital UNIX, V1.0. It provides to BOTH VMS and Digital UNIX installations file transfer support between MVS/VMS/DU. The IBM component, MDU can be ordered with a s/w enabler that permits the SAME access from VMS as DTF 3.1 provides. I've forwarded a pointer to this note to DELNI::RODITI (Moshi) who is the product manager. thanks, lew |
