| >>>According to the IBM people the APPC subsystem on VMS does not implement
>>>features like password protection, two phase commit, full duplex.
True. We do not support password protection, two phase commit, full
duplex with OpenVMS APPC V2.2 nor V2.3.
>>>Therefore the BIND negotiation fails and no AS400 with OS version
>>> greater than 3.0
I don't think that is true any longer.
Release note from ECO-20 and 21. APPC LU6.2 for OpenVMS V2.2-21
o Bind rejected when Full duplex bind supplied. We now
negotiate Full duplex bind to half duplex flip-flop.
AS400 site reported that we unbound and didn't negotiate
to half duplex flip-flop. We do now.
o Bind response changed for session instance id user data
subfield processing. If format 01 is in bind, bind
response will contain format 02.
AS400 site reported that our bind response caused automatic
unbind from AS400 when we simply echoed back format
01 session instance id subfield. We don't any longer.
By the way, IBM echoes it back from CICS on MVS/ESA,
they also made a PTF for this. We accept bind rsp
either way to work with backlevels of IBM software.
o Bind no longer rejected when Nonce data supplied.
AS400 site reported we unbound if Nonce data was supplied.
We now accept it in the bind and ignore it. We also clear
bit 5 of byte 23 in bind response, which means we are
indicating to PLU to run without password substitute support.
If your customer has support, and there are issues open a formal
support call.
We may have a bug here. It looks like we removed Nonce data subfield
from bind response. We should have left it alone and echoed it back
like we didn't see it. I don't like to rely on notesfile data, so
if you do escallate a support call, supply the real trace data file.
Thanks,
Bill Porcaro

6992.4 | AS/400 LU6.2 security | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Rafael Wariwoda | Sun Jan 26 1997 13:13 | 12 |
|
The only way to configure the AS/400 for accepting the BIND response is
to disable "New" LU6.2 Security for the whole machine.
This influences all other connections and can only be considered as a
workaround not as a solution.
regards,
Rafael
BTW: Do we plan to implement the "new" security features of LU6.2?

| It doesn't make sense that IBM would do this. I would expect
the security mechanisms to be on a remote LU or Modename basis.
Where did you get your information regarding the following?

Bill,
the information in .4 comes from an IBM consultant for AS/400. Till
now I have no reason to doubt his statements. But nevertheless I will
check your hint concerning remote LU or Modename.
A configuration example for the AS/400 side could be very helpful.
thanks,
Rafael

6992.7 | Configuration of AS/400 | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Rafael.Wariwoda | Wed Jan 29 1997 03:38 | 18 |
| Hi,
following is the complete configuration of the AS/400. As the AS/400 "speaks"
German there are some German expressions in the configuration list but the
meaning should be clear from the position of a parameter.
The first part is the SDLC configuration for the dial-up line (TBSDLC).
Maybe someone could tell me if there is a switch or whatever to disable LU6.2
security on a LU basis.
I have added also the X.25 configuration (TBX25) where the BIND response is
accepted
whithout having any problems.
thanks,
Rafael
