SPECIAL OFFER FOR THE CORBA-ASSISTANT V1.2

"Monitor your CORBA Application"
==========================================

Dear CORBA programmers,

may I draw your attention to a new product of Fraunhofer-IITB called CORBA-Assistant
that allows to monitor at runtime the configuration and the behaviour of
CORBA-based applications. The benefit of this tool is two-fold:

* for the programmer of a distributed CORBA application it allows to follow the
run-time behaviour of application components (e.g. life time of server/client/objects)
* for the operator of a distributed system it improves the recognition of
performance bottlenecks on application level (e.g. long response times, server overload)
and a faster fault analysis (e.g. status of a server process).

The granularity of monitoring (computer, process or object level) is configurable.

Management instrumentation libraries, that are either statically or dynamically
linked to the CORBA-based application components, enable such a management view.
No change of your IDL definitions is necessary.

The needed management instrumentation libraries are currently available for Orbix 2
from Iona Technologies under Solaris 2.4/5.
Support of Orbix for AIX 4.1.4 and Windows NT 4.0 is under test.
Porting to other operating systems may be performed on request.

Any other ORB vendor that is interested in integrating the management instrumentation
libraries in his product should contact us directly. Management support for CORBA products
will become a buy criteria for customers very soon.

The visual part of the CORBA-Assistant is the Management Information Browser called Orbas.
It currently runs on a SPARC workstation under Solaris 2.x. Orbas is a Management Application
that allows to walk through the CORBA Management Information of the individual CORBA resources.
In particular, performance-related management information (e.g. number of requests/s sent out
or received, server or object throughput) may be displayed in a graph diagram.

The technical pre-requisites are:

- a SPARC workstation running Solaris 2.4/2.5
- Orbix Version 2.0.1 MT
- an Orbix application in source code as an application to be managed

Support of Orbix 2.1 and 2.2 is currently under test.

The CORBA-Assistant comprises:

- a CORBA Management Information Browser application
- an experimental Java-based Management Application called COVIS as an add-on
- CORBA Management Facilities
- CORBA Management Information Libraries to be linked with your Orbix
  application components
- documentation

SPECIAL OFFER:

For all orders that arrive by 30 August 97 there is an introductory price
