| They are nickel plated aluminum.

| The ones I have now are platinum, not nickle plated aluminum.
They're not plated either (even wear; no flaking). They lasted
three years. The stock Shimano DX aluminums wore out in one season.
Then again, my mtb "seasons" are several thousand miles each year;
YMMV.

| Hey, can I have your old ones?
Platinum is a rather soft material, similar to gold, but more
expensive. Perhaps platinum is a trade name. April futures for platinum
closed today at $381.50 per ounce, gold at $356.00, btw.

| I think it's safe to say that it's a model name and not
the material make-up. Of course, Elvis would have had the
real stuff mounted on a beryllium frame, I'm sure :-).

I'm talking about REAL chainrings, as in the company REAL. Their rings are
nickel plated aluminum. I've used them for a year now with out any flaking or
noticeable wear. I've drilled them into logs and can't even bend the teeth.
Made to last.

| If you want bulletproof chainrings and have some money, order
Boone Technology titanium...hard and pretty. Actually the middle and
inner rings aren't that badly priced.
