627.1 | BlackGold Winner card in my first pack! | ZENDIA::SCHOTT | | Thu Feb 10 1994 10:54 | 23 |
| I decided to buy a pack of 1994 Topps baseball on my through the
grocery store checkout. Nice cards compared to most of the
regular topps offerings. Really blow away my old 60's, 70's
and 80's topps cards.
Guess what!?!? In my pack of 15 was a WINNER A blackgold card!
Can you believe it?
It says to send it in, I'll be sent my 11 blackgold cards and a
WINNER A card returned to me marked TAKEN or something like
that. What have others done with these winner cards? Do
you send them in or keep them. Are they worth more not
being sent in? I'd really like the 11 blackgold cards...
Eric
p.s. I also got a Mike Bell rookie card. If anyone had dupes
of this one, let me know. He's a cousin of mine (actually, his
father Buddy Bell's father Gus Bell is my grandfather's cousin -
you decide where I fall) :^)

You must've got Walt Ashe's pack. I'd send it in and get the set of
cards myself which I did with mine anyway.

| Did they send you back the Winner Card too? I really like it
as a card with 11 players on it.

Yes, they do send it back. It's kind of a checklist card with the
mail in stuff removed. No holes punched in it or anything.

Also expect a delay in shipping. I think the back says
6-8 weeks but I sent in one for hockey on 11/08/93 and still
haven't gotten the cards yet.

I don't know ... I like the quality of the paper and the stats ...
otherwise I don't like the new cards that much ... the last 3-4 years
of TOPPS all look essentailly the same ... and IMO trying to please the
investors they have screwed the collectors.
In the 60s we had league leader cards, team cards, world series cards,
and multi-player stuff like "BoSox Bashers". In addition the card
styles from year to year varied greatly ... BTW I think the 67 set is
about the best looking set ever. I also (and in a great minority)
liked the stupid poses instead of action shots ... I can see action
pictures everywhere ... poses on the other hand are hard to find.

Wow, someone who agrees with me team cards, league leaders etc. The
only subsets nowadays are the "Future Stars', "Prospects" etc. The
cards people would invest in.
You're also definitely right about the designs. I still thinks Topps
would be better off using some of their old designs (prior to 1970
of course).
Re. 1
If you do send in these winner cards, make sure you send them certi-
fied mail. I sent my hockey ones in the beginning of Dec. and got it
back a couple of weeks ago.

| Well, bought my second pack of 94 Topps and you guessed, it blackgold
winner card B. I assume A and B are for series 1, C and D will be
in series 2?? I just want to make sure I have them all before I
send them in for redemption. :^)
