589.0. "Great Trades" by PENUTS::JST_ONGE (John St.Onge USDSL DTN 275-2715) Fri Sep 24 1993 09:36

In the fall of 1991 my wife had gone to a yard sale and she noticed one
of those Classic big board game boxes which came with the 1987 board
game, a few of the travel sets and the 1990 board game. The lady wanted
2$ for the box. My wife opened it and saw a Jim Rice card so she said
figured it was probably worth 2$ anyway. I figured they'd have pulled
all the cards including the Bo Jackson Auburn shot. After sorting all
the cards, they were complete sets of the 1987 Green set and also the
travel yellow, blue and red sets.

Last year a friend of mine was looking for these Classic sets so using
the Beckett's price guide I swapped him the Classic Sets minus the
Clemens green Classic card for two boxes of 1992 Bowman Baseball and
two boxes of 1992 SkyBox Impact Football. At the time no one wanted the
Bowman baseball. Needless to say the Bowman baseball took off. So for
2$ I basically got a Bowman set and two SkyBox Impact Football sets.

Neither Mike - when I made the trade no one wanted Bowman baseball
except for me maybe since I collect most of the baseball issues.
Now that it's perceived as scarce everyone wants it. When Bowman
first came out no one wanted it because it was so plentiful from
the previous years. All I'm saying is that for 2$ I ended up with
a set that I would not buy at the current prices - like "Topps
    Finest".
