583.0. "1993 Stadium Football" by SEND::TANCILL (Sponsered by nobody) Thu Sep 09 1993 12:10

93 Stadium Football series 1 is out and hats off to Topps for coming up
with a new twist on inserts that I think is a great idea. In each box
you'rr supposed to get (odds 1:24) a first day production card (less than
1000 of each exist, compared to 2000 of each for baseball) and also
the neat insert is a silver embossed "Super Team Card". The super
team card features a player from each of the 28 teams on the front
and contest rules on the back. The contest is if your team wins the
division, conference and/or super bowl you can trade in your super team
card for prizes. You also get 1 of 12 first series master photos
like in the baseball. And like baseball there are master photo
winners cards in some packs, redeemable for 3 of the 12 master
photos. I got one of these in 2 boxes.

If the team shown on your super team card wins the Super Bowl you redeem
the card for a limited edition 500 card stadium football set with the
official super bowl logo embossed in gold on every card (average retail
value (ARV) estimate is $100) and you're entered for a drawing for an
official Super Bowl XXVIII game ball (ARV $150). If your team wins a
conference championship you get to redeem your card for a
collection of 12 master photos of that team (ARV $30) with the
conference logo embossed in gold foil. If your team wins a division
title you may redeem the card for a collection of 12 stadium club cards
of the team (ARV $15), each card ewmbossed with the division winner
logo in gold foil. Also you get back a certified Team Card. You
must pay $5 postage and handling for the super bowl set and $1.75 each
for the conference and division prizes and you can get any and all
prizes the team qualifies for if you pay the postage and handling for
each. Also no purchase necessary, you can enter for a chance to win
a "free" Super Team card by sending a 3 x 5 card, 1 per envelope to
Topps by 2/1/94 with your complete name and address to:

    	Topps Stadium Club Team Cards
    	P.O. Box A
    	Duryea, PA 18642

The odds are 1:24 you'll win just like the regular wax pack odds of
pulling a team card. Apparently you can enter as many times as you
like, but only one entry per envelope.

BTW, the cards themselves are pretty nice too. But it does appear that
they left out some rookies for series 2. Series 1 has Mirer but no
Bledsoe and sadly no Reggie Brooks from the redskins :-(

Master photos in series one are (12 total):
    Sterling Sharpe	Derrick Thomas
    Ricky Watters	Rob Moore
    Cortez Kennedy	Reggie Cobb
    Deion Sanders	Barry Sanders
    Steve Young Barry Foster
    Bruce Smith Jeff George

The Team Cards are a great insert but they make for tough decisions.
I have the Lions Team Card (great shot of Barry Sanders on it).
Yesterday I was torn between rooting for the Patriots to win or
wanting the Lions to win 8*) I also have New Orleans, the Jints
    and the Jets.

It will make the football season a little mor interesting. Good
    concept.

Series 2 is out, 1 per box first day and super team cards just
like series 1. That's right, the Super Team cards look to be
repeated in series 2. I thought they might change players,
that would have been a good thing, make them at least a little
different even if redeemable for the same prizes.

Not complaining though since I just pulled an Emmitt/cowboys card.
Looks like another 250 cards to round it out to 500 for whole set.

Bledsoe's stadium is in this series, rather a dumb photo imho,
he's taking a snap at practice/preseason, everyone is in shorts.

Ok, I have a Lions super team card. They won their division.
What do I do now and what do I get?

Also, I bought a Lions Member's only team set. That doesn't get me
    anything, does it?

    Walt,

We were both cheering the Lions on yesterday. I had the Lions card too.
Wanted them to win so I could get the set of Lions Master Photo's. I
    hope Sanders is in it.

I ended up with 4 of the 6 division winners (Lions, 49'ers, Oilers
and Chiefs). Now if only Emmitt Smith and Thurman Thomas get the
flu during the playoffs.........and can't suit up.

These cards made the football season more interesting. I had the Bears
and Lions in the Central Division. I was not happy with the Packs
comeback into the race. I didn't want the Bears because who would you
want on their team in a Master Photo?

Biggest disappointment was the fold by the Steelers (I still have them
and they could win the AFC, at least they made the playoffs). I had
picked up their card for $8 and thought they'd win after the Monday
    Night win they had.

    Fun cards. Good concept.

PS: You send them in after the SB with a note listing the winners you
have and what they won (Division, Conference, SB).
