Team Member Membership
I just rec'd my 1993 Donruss Baseball preview cards. These are the
cards that came with the "Donruss Team Member" membership. I have to
say that this is a good looking card and they'll probably be
selling them at a $1.00 or more.I like the hi gloss finish and the
stock seems to be thicker, the card also has two action photos of the
player.
This is the final shipment of cards, (1) preview card for 1993
and (1) package of 1992 Studio cards,so of your a team member,your
cards are on the way.

well since Donruss will not produce factory sets for 93.Diamond
Kings will be back (30 cards) along with 2 Rookie of the Year
cards and a 20 card insert set called Spirit of the Game.

Series 1 is out, saw them today, Dec. 3rd. Sorry, but I just can't
get excited about baseball cards in December, geez. I did buy one
pack to see what they looked like and they are nice, but it's
too early for most people, although I guess the baseball only
collectors will be psyched.

| I saw some at a card store today. They are nice. The dealer was moaning
about business being bad. I asked him what the price on a box of
Donruss was and he said 38$. Yeah right ! Along side his 55$ Topps 1992
Stadium Club Baseball, his 35$ UD Football Series I boxes etc. With
prices like that no wonder business is bad. Those days of everyone
having to have it right away are gone. People wait now because they
know they can get it cheaper later.

Direct cost is around $23/box for series 1 Donruss, use that as basis
for deciding if you're paying a fair price.
I opened a box last night as got 4 DKs and 2 Spirit of the Game cards.
Pretty decent insert value for the $25 I paid. The SG cards are neat,
the are full bleed, "two fronts", each capturing an aspect of the game.
There are no players names on the cards, yet the "front" depicts a
particular player, for instance I got George Bell in a three shot
photo on the "front" slugging a homer, the "back" has him high fivin'
Framk Thomas as he crossing the plate, with the word "...GONE!" is
bold yeloow lettering at the top. Also got Bip Roberts sliding into
home plate "SAFE AT HOME". They are real nice cards and I like the
concept idea (capturing the 'spirit') vs. having the same old inserts
centered around an individual.
Probably the cards themselves will be sold off cheap in hand collated
sets, but in the long run with no factories and a supposed decrease
in production, the cards may hold their value.
Overall not bad, really like the SG cards, good product at a reasonable
price and no factories. $38 is ridiculous, one shop up here that
got them yesterday and who is usually "fully priced" on boxes, was
asking $32. Shows I would guess will be around $30/box this weekend,
or you can probably get them in a month or two for $20/box once more
baseball issues flood in on us.

496.7 | What makes up a "Complete set"? | WMOIS::MALLETTE_P | | Wed Jan 06 1993 14:01 | 9 |
| Folks,
I just bought my 10 year old a box of 93 Donruss Baseball cards for
Christmas. My question is, What comprises the "Complete" 93 set? Please
remember he is new at collecting and I know nothing about cards at all,
so if you use any "Trade Terms" please include a definition.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Paul

| Paul, a complete set will be both Series I (which is the box you
bought) and Series II which I believe is coming out in February.
So you'll have to fork out some more money later on (for his birthday
maybe).
Some people also collect "Master Sets" which means you also get all
the promotion cards, any insert cards (such as the Diamond Kings and
Spirit of the Game cards) and error/variation cards. Variation cards
(and error cards) would be something like:
You open a pack and get a Ken Griffey Jr., but the picture on the
back is Barry Bonds. You buy a pack a month later and get another
Ken Griffey Jr. card, but this time the picture on the back is Ken
himself. Hence, a variation card exists with the Bonds.
Keep your son away from those price guides though ;-)

496.9 | Make a list. | KAOS::STOLL | | Wed Jan 06 1993 23:17 | 14 |
| Paul,
Also note that Donruss has staited they will not produce a
factory set (a complete set sealed at the factory) so you will
have to build a complete set by coallating all series 1 and all
series 2 in numerical order to make sure you have a complete set.
Your box was series 1. A complete series 1 set is 396 cards.
-Wayne-
p.s.
If you don't get a complete set from your box, make a list of
the cards you need and post it in the wanted or trade note. There
are lots of extra's floating around in this notes file!!
And lots of them are in my living room!

| John and Wayne,
Thanks for your reply's... I've been after him to make a list of his
wants and any of his doubles to trade with.
I didn't realize that series 1 and 2 together make the set...I guess
he better start saving his allowance.
RE: Price guides...you mean hime getting the subscription to Becketts
wasn't a good idea...he LOVED it.
Thanks again,
Paul
