What kind of prices are they asking John? Have to see what turns up
    Tues. at the KofC.

Anyone know whether this '54 Archives will be like the '53, ie only
avaiable through dealers? Also, will the dealers be getting their
order forms from Topps for this product?

    Regards,
    Denny

You mean like the '53 was 'only available thru dealers', but then
    eventually were Walmart for $1.89/pack?

My questio nis ... I notice that Don Jennings in his ad, has them
listed for $49.99 -- but under the "factory set" column, not under
    the wax-box column.

Is this a mis-print, or will there actually be factory sets? I'm
    assuming a mis-print.

    	Roy,

I remember reading somewhere that this set was supposed
to be released only as a Factory set, no wax boxes.

Has anyone else heard anything to the contrary ?.

?Anyone interested in a Box or a factory set?

Ill volunteer to coordinate a purchase of a case if there's enough
    interest amongst to noters.

Since I don't get SCD, would you experienced collectors suggest "whole
salers" I should call for a price?

If the moderator(s) don't mind, I would prefer people respond in this
reply so I can keep track of who wants what and who I should call.

If that's a problem, send mail to CARTUN::Pavlock

As soon as I get a few names of who to call, I'll post to case size and
price per wax or factory set.

458.14No cases from Don JenningsCARTUN::PAVLOCKTue Aug 18 1992 18:0918

Last night I called Don Jennings about the 1954 Topps Archives.

They are only selling individual "wax" boxes at 49.99/box. They had no
information about a factory set. It sounded to me like they had no
info at all on this product, they were just taking pre-orders to help
    the old cash flow.

Anyway, if you want to call them and order a box for yourself their
    number is 205-880-6405.

If anyone runs across an ad for cases of this product let me know, I'm
still interested in coordinating a purchase for the group. If you find
a "case ad", send me mail at CARTUN::Pavlock

    Regards,
    Denny

    Re: .14

Don Jennings is a pretty reputable dealer. Aside from a 10% S&H fee,
I've never had any problems with him. I've ordered stuff from him
since 1983 and always got my stuff. This is not to say his prices
are the best or anything like that. SCD does not allow dealers to
advertise products unless they can prove they have it on order.

    John
458.16CERBUS::KARLSONOnly 130 shopping days until Xmas!Wed Aug 19 1992 08:4120

SCD also recently changed their ad policies to include the fact that
dealers cannot advertise for something that they will not have in
stock within "x" (I blv it's 60) days, unless they state so in their
    ad.

Like I told Denny, I don't think $49.99 is all that hot a price, esp.
when you consider the 10% s&h fee. *OUCH*.

Donn Jennings most recent ad has '53 Archives for $55, which is only
    $5 more than he's pre-selling the '54s for. Using the 1% price
guideline, the 54's should be HALF of the 53's -- since that would
be less than dealer cost, I don't expect to see it. But I would
expect that boxes will be available for $35-40.

I'll dig up the number for Larry Fritsch Denny -- he's the one I
ordered my 53's from (for $39.95/box) -- so maybe he'll be taking
pre-orders or have some case/price info for us.

I believe that Don Jennings is a reputabel dealer, it could have been
that the "order taker" I got at the end of the phone either just didn't
know much or was having a bad day.

Like I said before, if we can get a good price on a case and there's
enough interest, as there seems to be, I'll coordinate to purchase of a
    case.

    Regards,
    Denny

Do you speculate Topps did the Basketball now and they will do the 1954

Just a suggestion .... if you like these reprints write TOPPS and let
them know ... a little push from customers ought to help ... I'd love
to see TOPPS market reprints of all their 50s stuff ... baseball,
    football, and hockey.

    John,

    I hope so!!!

Being from Detroit, my baseball hero as a kid was Al Kaline. That's
his rookie card and given I don't have $600+ dollars, it's the only way
    I'll ever get one.

BTW, if Topps does this sets and you all have any extra Kalines that
you don't want, I'll put a bid in now for your extras.

Hey Denny I was going to suggest it the other way. When YOU buy a box
for $50 and pull out your $600 Kaline send me the extra 500 cards OK?
you don't want them right! .... 8^) .... I'll even let you have all of
    the Tiger cards.
