440.0. "1992 Leaf Baseball" by DDIF::TANCILL (long may you run) Tue May 26 1992 12:45

1992 Leaf is coming in the end of June, so like the cards manufacturers
I thought I'd jump the gun and start a note early.

You can get a look at these cards from the Preview cards inserted in
the Donruss factory sets. They are somewhat like last year's Leaf
although I think much better. They have a silver boarder, similiar
color to last year's. The boarder is less than 91 Leaf (an
improvement) and they dropped the silly black corner thingys. These
cards are *not* a stadium type technology card, rather the usual
Leaf thick stock well-made card. Backs ahve a nice color photo
on the left hand side, stats to the right. I hope these are affordable
because they certainly aren't anything earth shattering.

I have heard different stories about inserts, one says that there
will be Leaf Gold Rookies like last year along with Leaf Gold
All-Stars. The other story was that there would be Leaf Gold Rookies
subset as well as an entire Gold set ala ToppsGold, with one gold
card per pack (better than Topps one per box). I believe dealer
    direct cost is around $32-$34/box.

I've already been shopping for these in SCD and have been quoted prices
in the area of $65 a box. Right now everything is still sketchy as to
price and content. We should know more by the first week in June.
    I'd be happy?paying $50 per box? 8^}

Anyone interested in preordering (splitting a case/or two) 92 LEAF
    boxes ?

Has anyone been quoted "hard" prices for a case of 92 series I ?

         (How many boxes in a case this year..10, 12, 20 ?)

I can get $45/box on pre-order from guys I know who run a store
in my home town of Merrimack, nh. Money has to be in by the end
of May (this saturday the 31st), expected delivery end of June.

I was thinking of getting one box myself, can we do better (than
$45/box) by trying to buy a whole case?

Re .6 : It's a ten box case, just like last year's I believe. So
if someone can get a hard quote for less than $450/case, let us know.
Otherwise we can get single boxes for $45 on pre-order, but we
have to decide in the next 2 days.

$450 is probably the best you'll find at this point. I called
Rotmans today, they are sold out on their pre orders (sold out
    @$42.50).
I locked in some today for $47.90. This guy is in Calf. I'll
try to pass along the order info later. He said he would be selling
10 box cases. He did mention that this pre order is for the second
shipment and that when the first shipment goes "live" the second
shipment will follow about 3 weeks later (early July). The "live"
stuff will be more expensive just because you'll have a whole lot
of dealers and collectors with no patience, This is probably what
drives prices up so quickly. Yesterday I talked to the guy I'm getting
my series 2 std clb from ($52.50 on preorder). He said that series2 is
now live and selling for $65 a box.

Bought my first packs tonight, still waiting for the pre-order
boxes, guy was selling them for $2/pack. Looks like we have the
gimmicky Gold Leaf Stars subset of 33 available only from your
local hobby dealer who order donruss factory sets, a regular
528 card, two series silver Leaf set and a matching 528 Gold
Edition set, plus 24 Gold Leaf Rookies like last year. 12 each
in series I and II (number BC-1 to BC-24).

The Gold Editions are nice and I like the one per pack deal, makes
me wonder however what will happen to the value of the regular silver
set though. In five packs I got one Gold Leaf rookie, BC-1, Chad
Curtis. These gold rookies have a different design, boarderless
picture with a sortof odd looking gold box outline about 1/4 inch
in from the edge. Diamonds on the corners and same backs as gold
    editions.

I think I like last year's gold leaf rookies better, at least on
    first impression.

440.15thumbs down on distributionDDIF::TANCILLlong may you runThu Jun 25 1992 01:0412

Yuck! Broke a box and the distribution looks pretty bad. Sitting
here looking at piles of ten I have loads of 1-60 and 200-264, much
less of the 70s thru 130s and very few of 140s to 190s. You would
think out of 540 cards you could get one set of 1-264. I don't
remember Leaf distribution being this bad in the past two years,
maybe I just got a bogus box.

    looking for trading partners,

440.166 rooksDDIF::TANCILLlong may you runThu Jun 25 1992 02:139

Forgot to mention, I got six Gold Leaf Rookies in the box. Maybe
since they are giving you one Gold Edition per pack Leaf feels they
don't have to give as many gold rooks as last year. I consistantly
got 8 or 9 in last year's boxes (the old one per layer). It again
was one per layer, but 3 layers had none.

440.21"Special" Leaf packs...?STUDIO::GUTIERREZI'm on my break Fri Jul 10 1992 11:5512

I have a question about a "special" Leaf box that only
dealers were supposed to have access to. At one of the
card shows I saw a dealer selling these Leaf packs for
$5 each (not sure about the price). A guy at the show
bought a pack, opened it and there were only 2 cards in it,
so I asked him about it, and he said that those were "special"
boxes and only dealers were offered the chance to buy
them. I don't recall anyone here discussing anything
like that. Can someone offer more information on this ?.

that I looked at it again, but somehow didn't pay much
attention to it, probably because it was so expensive.

440.25Leaf Gold Card DistributionQETOO::HAYESThu Jul 16 1992 11:1321
I read a letter Leaf sent out to dealers regarding the Gold
Card distribution. It seems that cards 1-132 were distributed in
some cases and 133-264 in others. Donruss is offering to
take back duplicates of either grouping and replace them
with a the same number of cards from the other grouping.

They stated that in later production runs the problem was corrected
and that gold cards from 1-264 were randomly distributed.

If you are into the gold cards find a dealer who has the 1-132
distribution. That group has Clemens, Ryan and Ripken. You have
a greater chance of finding the gold.....

I bought 64 gold cards yesterday. Included were Ripken, Ryan,
Clemens and the Thomas checklist. I am about 20 cards away from
completing 1-132. I don't think I'll go any further but it is fun
trying for the first 1/4 of the set. I paid $33 for the group
(3X BBC). Has anyone seen these for sale at shows/shops? What
are the commons going for? All I have left is commons.

    Thanks, Steve

I've noticed alot of you already have purchased boxes of series II.

I've seen them around, from place to place (not at shows), and there
selling for ~$50/box... I found this to be a little high since I
purchased my series boxes for $43. What's a good price to pay for
series II boxes, and where have you been getting them?
