437.0. "Babe Ruth Autographed baseballs" by JOKUR::OLOUGHLIN () Fri May 15 1992 09:46

    Everyone,

I was watching the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks last night.
After the game I swithched through the channels and came upon the
home shopping club's sports mem. show. I couldn't believe it they
actually had 3 Babe Ruth autographed baseball's that looked
to be in excellent condition for sale. They sold 3 of them in the
matter of about 39 seconds and had to move on to the next item,
Ted Williams autographed bats. Anyways, your probably wondering
how much they where asking for the Babe Ruth autographed baseballs.
They were asking 6,000 dollars a-piece. I couldn't believe how quick
    they sold. Any inputs?

    Thanks All,
    SteveO'

I had always heard that Ruth-signed baseballs were so common that they
weren't worth all that much. Evidently he signed everything in
sight for kids. It certainly fits in with his reputation.

Oh well, they certainly can't make new ones any more. :^O

I saw the show advertise that Babe Ruth Ball, but didn't stay up and
see how much it sold for. Thanks for posting that, $6K. Wow!! They
did look in pretty good shape, no discoloring on the ball. Those old
balls usually turn black, or dark brown, which makes it hard to read
    the autograph.

Not to change the subject, did you see HSC last nite? Sit down for
this one. They were offering, a 1987 set of Topps Coins for $60, no
$55, no, but that would be an excellent price for this test issue, not
even $45 will we let this set of 1987 Topps coins go for. A flashing
special once in a life time price, and remember, once these are sold
out, this is the end of these folks, $39.75, plus S&H. Incredible!!
a set of 1987 Test Issue coins for $39.75. Buy NOW! Then some houdlum
from New Yackk calls up to say what an incredible deal this is, and I
think I will buy 4 of them, what a deal, a hard to get issue. Now,
tell me something, at an auction last year, I picked up a set for
$7.00. Who's kidding who here. Did I get a deal, or are these telling
    the truth??

Ruth Baseball is listed in Tuff Stuff for $1200 I think.

Base Note - these are starting to come out of investors hoards as they
feel the money crunch. More great stuff is on the way.
With a letter of authenticity it's super cheap at 6K.

I'm waiting for a few things of my uncles to surface- this
will be my only chance to pick them up:
Anyone have a Michael J. "King" Kelly flannel
                     uniform from the 1890's
How about a Pud Galvin Autographed Ball?
    Good Stuff Cheap and soon.

They also had the 1989 (?) Hoops All Star set (which was selling at
Sears a couple of years ago) for something like 15$ and people were
buying them thinking that they were getting the Hoops David Robin-
son rookie which lists for 60$.

Over the weekend I was flipping through the channels
and passed by the HSC (I never watch it), They were selling
a 1989 Topps Update set for $19.99. I just sat there
stunned, I got the becketts out, checked the price, and
	I just sat there stunned. Beckett's had it for 5 - 9,
when the quantity number started approaching 1,000, ya
that's right 1,000 people called in for this amazingly
low priced item. And they talk to people on the phone,
and these characters are telling the television audience
that this is a SUPER price for the set.. Amazing!

Isn't illegal to have the quantity # at the bottom of
the screen continuously going up if no one is actually
buying them? Are these people they talk to actually
people buying the idea or are they just props?

The good news is that P. T. Barnum was right.
The bad news that hes estimate was slightly off ( not one per second-
it's thousands per nano second ).

P.T. Barnum must've been a card dealer in his spare time ;-)
