I understand that the sheets that were to be given out, will now
NOT be given out.
A large NE dealer contacted the Red Sox, and was able to purchase
the sheets in bulk. The only ones which did not get bought out by
this dealer were the ones given out to the employees.
Sportsnet reports dealers are already offering $75/sheet!

Roy,
before I put the note in, I checked with the promotion
Dept. of the Red Sox at Fenway park to verify what it was that they
were giving out, because originally I thought they were giving
out a set of trading cards, and it turned out to be a sheet of
cards commemorating the '67 players, and they didn't say
anything about not giving them out as originally planned.
I was thinking about going to the game just to get the
cards, but when I wound out it was just a sheet of cards I was
disappointed and didn't think it was such a good deal. However,
now that you mentioned what is going on with that promotion
I might still go. In case you want to verify that they're
still giving them out, here is the number: (617)262-1915.

It's not even a sheet of cards Juan, it's more like a 8x11 sheet,
that has cards PICTURED on it.
SCD recently did an article on all of the bazillion sheets that
UD has produced for different occasions.
My hats off to anyone who as a "complete" UD collection ...

434.5 | Old Timer's game | STUDIO::GUTIERREZ | I'm on my break | Mon May 18 1992 10:57 | 21 |

After what Roy said about the giveaway, I decided not to go
to the game just to get the UD sheet with the picture of the
players on it, because that's what it was, just one sheet
with the faces of Yaz, Tony C., George Scott, Jim Lonborg,
and a couple of others I don't remember now. I saw the
sheet yesterday at the card show, and the dealer was selling
it for $10. I didn't buy it, because I was disappointed when
I saw, I was expecting pictures of baseball cards from that
year, but that was not the case, they were just blown up
pictures of the faces of those players I mentioned.
I watched the old timer's game on TV, and it was good to see
those players together again after 25 yrs. Some of them still
keep in good shape, like Jim Lonborg, Mike Andrews, Rico Petrocelli
and Jose Tartabull, while others like George Scott are way out
of shape. Rico made a good play at shortstop, and so did Jose
in the outfield, and Jose Santiago looks like still knows how to
pitch. I was disappointed because Reggie Smith and Bob Gibson
didn't show up, and Yaz didn't go to bat, I wonder why not.

I read an article yesterday that stated that Yaz appeared, but didn't
want to play. He has his reasons, which the author speculated were;
Yaz was such an intense player when he was active -- conditioning,
practice, extra hitting, fielding, etc., that he probablY (remember
this is the author's opinion but made sense to me) feels uncomfortable
playing at anything less than his "peak".
Since he's retired, that's less than his peak. While it's nice to see
the players together, some of them shouldn't be out there, and the
author (and I) believe Yaz doesn't want to sully the memories people
have of him, by watching him flub an easy play like a first-year
little leaguer.

| FYI:
The latest issue of "Living Legends" has an article about a collector
who has gotten hundreds of these UD commemorative sheets (for many
events in all 4 sports) by rooting thru the garbage of stadiums and
parks the day after the sheets were handed out.
