431.1 | brief summary | ROYALT::ASHE | That's the way of the world... | Mon May 11 1992 18:09 | 23 |
| If you're interested, I'd suggest buying a Beckett's baseball card
magazine. This will give you a list of each of the major sets of
cards distributed since the 50's. Staring in 1969 (I think) there
will be at least 1 Nolan Ryan card available in each of the sets.
The 1969 one is the rookie card that is valued at $1200. I don't
have one handy (or maybe someone can post the approx. prices in here
for you.)
I know there have been some subsets specifically dedicated to Nolan.
Two I can think of is the 1991 UD Heroes of Baseball subset (around
$10 at most cards shows or less) and the first 5 cards in the 1990
Topps Baseball set. A lot of the sets may have a "regular" Ryan
card and others such as Strikeout leaders, All-stars, etc. The special
cards normally run less than the rest so for $1.00 or so, you should be
able to find those as well.
Also, Coke is doing a special Ryan set this year for a certain amount
of proofs of purchases. You may want to send away for those as well.
Good luck,
Walt

| Shame on you Walt ! Nolan's rookie card is from 1968, but then he never
played for the Tigers either ;-)
By the way, I picked up the Donruss Ryan Coke Set for 10$ at a show
this weekend. Beats drinking all that coke.
Re: .0
You might also want to pick up the Pacific Trading sets they made of
Ryan.
I believe Beckett's also makes a guide listing player's alphabetically
with all their cards.

I have this guide ... give me a call and I can help with all his
"national" cards from 1968 through 1988 (my guide is getting old)

I just picked up the set (26 cards) for $8.00 at a shop in the
Westford/Chelmsford area.

Re: .4
Excellant price ! Dealers must've been able to get sets cheaper
somehow.

| 7-11 is giving out a small poster sized sheet of Nolan cards with the
purchase of a 12 pack or case (can't remember). Real thin paper stock,
with the cards pictured on front.

| I've just seen an internet posting which discusses a set of
Mother's Cookies Nolan Ryan cards. It's a set of 8 cards.
Is anyone familiar with these? Do you know of anyone with a set
for sale/trade?
Thanks,
K.

| They are distributed in packs of Mother's cookies. Or, send a bunch of
UPC's (8, I think) and something like $8.95 to them and receive an
uncut sheet.
I believe Mother's Cookies are only distributed on the west coast.
Not available to Dodger's fans.

| Does the fact that Nolan Ryan appears in someone else's card enhance
the value of the card?
The 1971 Topps #355 Buddy Harrelson card has an action photo of
Harrelson making a tag play at second base. Prominent in the
foreground of the photo is Nolan Ryan on the pitcher's mound.

For you Nolan Ryan fans:
My son and I got a mailing at the house last week from the "Hamilton
Collection" announcing a special collection of 12, thin porcelain Topps
Nolan Ryan cards, including a repro of his Topps rookie card.
Their pretty expensive, 19.50 + 1.75 P&H/month, but in case you didn't get
the offer (and you're interested) I'll send a copy of the flyer.
Regards,
Denny
