427.0. "A good deal?" by GIAMEM::A_ZELENT () Fri May 01 1992 14:49

         Hi,

Could someone please advise if the following is a good
deal and if yes, is there anyone who would like any ??

DAVID ROBINSON RC $ 31.00 apiece.

             Up to 100 available.

I asked a dealer about this and he was interested in
approx 50 cards at this price....Is it a good deal ??

Just read in the paper that Mr. Robinson was named
Defensive player for 1991-1992 season...This should make
his value increase ???? Yes ??? NO ??

             I was thinking of possibly buying some..10 ?? 20 ??
and wanted to get some input on whether or not this would
         be worth it ??

             Any opinions ?????

Anybody want to get som at this price ???

         AZ..

Is it a good deal? The best thing to do is consult the latest
Becketts Basketball Card Price guide to see what the going rate
    for the card is.

at 31$, I would guess that its his first Hoops card from 89-90.

I think the book value on this card is aproximately 38-40$, so 31$
is a pretty good deal if you're looking to get one for your collection.

I will say that this card seems to be pretty readily available and
its current book value might be a little inflated.

If Robinson continues to do well, wins a few gold medals and
NBA championships, then the card will continue to go up in value.

If you're looking for investment, then I would guess its not a very
good short term (1-5 years) investment. But it will probably do
well in the long term (10-20 years).

    Of course, it all depends on what happens to Mr Robinson himself;
if it turns out he can't come back from his injury the same, then
his card will probably not go much higher ever; If he turns out
to be the star of the 92 Olympics, then the card might go up
right away. you never know for sure.

I doubt his Defensive Player award will affect his RC value.

Then again, I think I'm in last place in the investment contest, so
    what do I know...

They are HOOPS the card is the one with the WHITE border
and Robinson holding up the SPURS shirt.

Becketts High price this month is $ 40.00.

I have checked dealers stores in the Marlboro
area and have seen them for from $42.00 to $ 45.00.

That is why I was thinking of getting 10-20. After the
Olympics, I assume that MR. Robinson will be going up.

The second coming of Jordan ?????

         Who knows....

RC card, I see them all the time and cheaper every time. fwiw,

What do you want to do with the cards that you're thinking of buying?
Look through SCD or any other related magazine that has many adds and
see if there are 100 count lots cheaper?
Find someone on the sportscard net and find out how much 100 will
    really cost.
Final thought, if you did'nt sell the 100 cards right away through this
note and have a list of people who would like more ..... then the
number might be right, but the cards won't sell.
Investor rule number 1 - The guy with the cards at the end loses.
Investor rule number 2 - The guy with the money wins.

    Beware of Robinson counterfeits/reprints.

Also, Robinson's injury could affect his ability to play in Barcelona.
Mutombo has a similar injury, BTW.
