406.0. "1991-92 Score Pinnacle Hockey " by CARTUN::PAVLOCK () Tue Mar 10 1992 12:20

Does any one have any information on the 1991-92 Score Pinnacle Hockey
    set?

When will it be available? How many card set? Anything else you think
    might be relevant.

I'm told the English version will be available from the candy distibutors
(BJ's and Sam's of the world) and that Score is planning to do a French
version that will only be available from dealers. Can someone confirm
    this as well.

Is anyone planning to do the French set? I'd like to know if there
will be anyone to trade with, since you folks said the Score Pinnacle
Football had such a terrible decollation with the wax boxes.

    Regards,
    Denny

Yes, there will be both English and French versions of this product.

Supposedly it's available already, but I haven't seen it.

If they wait another couple of weeks, heck, they can release it after
the hockey season is over, just like they did with football!

A lot of dealers don't/won't stock it because no one wants hockey
cards out of season, and while the card stock is nice, the design
is terrible (imo). A lot of wasted space, teeny-tiny pictures,
    terrible decollation.

But you can be sure you'll see it on my want-list (both flavors)
since my BIL collects just about everything hockey ... and I know
there's a number of people in here who collect "first issues", so
there's bound to be some trading partners.

It's been slow, but I've whittled my 142 card want-list down to
about 40 or so through trading in the notesfile, and the generosity
of some noters. I've *yet* to find a dealer stocking commons.
    (This is SP FB).

406.2French Pre-Order Price??CARTUN::PAVLOCKTue Mar 17 1992 14:5810
The card shop I frequent in W. Acton, Mass (A/B Cards) is taking
pre-orders on the Pinnacle Hockey French version for $50/box. Is that
    a good price?

If you are interested let him know you're from Digital. He doesn't
have a large quantity and he wants to make sure you get it at that
    price.

    Denny

Saw these in my local supermarket last night, I thought the price was
    $.99 a pack, didn't pay much attention since I don't collect Hockey.
They had quite a few boxes of these.

While I don't know how the collation is on these, I didn't seem to
see too many doubles and triples on these like the football. Of
course not being a big follower of hockey, not too many names stick
out anyway. Anyway, I got some card numbered B7 in the box I opened
today. Bill Ranford and it says Team Pinnacle. Geez, another insert
    set to go after.

Overall, another nice premium set and I do like the "Idols" cards
which are the same as the football ones. I'll let you know how the
    collation is.

    Just the usual questions,

-What's an average price per box?

-How's the coallation in a box?

    English:	$30-35

    French:	$40-45

These are the average prices/box I've seen @ shows.

    Decollation? From my BIL's experience:

English:	terrible, missing close to 100 cards for set.
French: incredible, missing only 24 cards for set.

A set consists of 420 cards, with the same subsets that the Pinnacle
Football had -- idols, game winners, good guys, etc.

There are insert cards, which seem to average about 1/box (my BIL
got NONE in either box). These are "Team Pinnacle" cards and are
numbered B1 through B10. Most dealers seem to be waiting to see
what the market will bear on these. BIL picked up a Brian Leetch
for $2 this weekend, but someone else had a lesser player for $10.

    July when Proset comes out)?

I saw French Pinnacle for $35/box yesterday at a show in manchester,
nh. The cost must be close to the English, so you may not want to
pay too much more for the French. English Pinnacle was $31-$33 at
    the same show.

The new hockey Beckett has the Team Pinnacle B cards listed,
commons are like $10 or $11 with stars up to something like
$20-$25. I only took a quick glance at someone else's Beckett,
then thought gee I'm kind of glad I didn't get one in my
box, because I don't feel obligated to collect them. This
might be kind of expensive for you hockey collecting fanatics ;-)

I picked up a couple of boxes of Score Pinnacle Hockey at BJ's
Warehouse in Westboro some time back. I recently opened the boxes
to try to put a set together. I was amazed that cards numbered
330 to 420 were all mis-cut in both boxes. It looked like a five
year old tried cutting the cards. The corners were rounded, the
picture was not centered but rather tilted, and also the widths
at the top, middle and bottom were all different sizes. I only
noticed the difference in the widths because the cards looked
crooked to me. Well, I picked up another box at Warren Collectables
in Arlington the other day and the same problems exist although
not as bad as the first two boxes. By the way, I only got one
"B" series card out of the three boxes and that was B5, Mario
Lemieux. What I would like to know is if any of you collectors
have come accross the same problems that I have.

The box I opened was fine, however I picked up a few single packs and
it seemed like some cards had a crease in the middle. The box you
opened sounds like the Babe Ruth box I opened.

The "B" cards seem pretty hard to get.

I saw them over the weekend for $26(english) and $28(french) at a mall
show. There wasn't much demand for them but that seems to be the case
for all hockey cards this time of year. I wonder if they'll drop even
    lower over the summer?

Was it the french or english that had the poorly cut cards?

BTW, did anyone else pick up any French Hockey Pinnacle?

If so, my BIL would be interested in trading with you to help finish
    off a set.

Anyone know of any stores in the central Mass. area that have
    french pinnacle singles?

I can currently get these for $30 a box. Is this a good price. What
is this selling for in the Mass area? I think Yboth the English and
    French are for sale.
