386.0. "1992 MARVEL Series III" by PHAROS::MATOS () Tue Feb 04 1992 13:20

This note is for 1992 MARVEL Series III.

The new subsets in this 200 card series are; Cosmic Beings, Marvel
Milestones, Famous Team-ups, Wars, and origins. There will also be
subsets for Superheroes, Supervillains, Teams, and Rookies.
On the cards back, the "did You Know" text has been replaced with a
quote from the featured character, pulled from the voluminous Marvel
library. Along with the regular card series are 5 hologram cards
randomly inserted in the wax packs. Holograms are Hulk, Thing,
    Wolverine, Venom, and Ghost Rider.

386.1Venom Promo Holo...STUDIO::GUTIERREZPeace be with you all year roundTue Feb 04 1992 13:2813

    	Miguel,

the release of the Marvel Series III is still far off,
probably later this year, but the latest issue of Advance Comics
magazine that came out last week has a promo Holo of Venom bagged
with the magazine. The Holo alone is worth more than the price
    	of the magazine.

The comic dealer in my area is sold out of them, but I was
able to get one for myself. Check the comic dealer in your area,
    	he may still have some.

    FYI:
ADvance Comics seems to always have a card giveaway bagged with the
magazine. A few months ago they gave away a gold Magneto Holo. Last
month it was a Dungeon & Dragon card. This month the Venom hologram and
I was told next month will be 2 batman cards not in the regular set. I
think the giveaways are always non-sport but I haven't really followed
the magazine long enough to say for sure.
This magazine is also a great way to learn about upcoming stuff
    (cards and otherwise).

Advance Comics is a "what's new" type of book it shows what type of
merchandise and memorabilia will be made available to retail stores.
in the past they did not have much luck selling the book since most of
this information was available through other free literature such as
Comic Shop News etc... The Gold Magneto Hologram idea "scam" got them
noticed and noticed quick, I believe that was the first Holo give away.
The current one of Venom is cool looking... One local shop sells them
for $3.50 realizing the Holo is worth that and the Magizine is basically
    a throw in..

    FYI:
I called American Liquidators yesterday and they have X-men holo sets
and they expect to have Marvel holo sets in about a month and 1/2.

386.5Early look......SDOCS1::MONDARESMon Mar 09 1992 17:4017

Saw a set of uncut promo cards in the Diamond Previews order book.

IMHO, these are even better looking than the previous series.
The card looks like a ProSet Platinum card, no borders and what looks
like a hi gloss front. The backs also sport a new look. The unusual
or interesting part of the Series III cards is that certain cards, of
4, when placed in a certain order, will form one BIG card. The back-
grounds of the cards will be different.

Anyway, check around... Boxes are going anywhere from $19.99 (Rotman's,
where I ordered from) to $24.95.

    re: .6

I asked the dealer at my local card shop about doubles and triples in
packs when this happened to me. He told me that this occurs when the
stock/quantity of the cards becomes depleted as the product nears end-
    of-life or end-of-production.
