382.0. "Seeking V362-27 Minor League BB Card: Bud Heslet" by HOTWTR::TUTAK_PE (Smoke 'em inside...) Sun Jan 26 1992 03:07
I recently became acquainted with a new 'neighbor' (actually he lives a
mile or two away, but so what), named Bud Heslet. After some talk and
getting to know each other, it turns out that Bud (a very nonassuming
and humble man) is a member of the Minor League Hall of Fame, having
hit something like 320 homeruns in a 16-year career as a catcher in the
International and Pacific Coast Leagues, some of it in the Yankee
organization. I wouldn't have believed it, but his wife kept scrapbooks,
and they are awesome.
Anyway, Bud is about in his early 70s, and although in pretty good
health, his wife mentioned to us that there is something that Bud would
like to see, but as of yet, never has....his baseball card.
One was taken of him many years ago (a minor league card), and although
he got paid for the shot, he never got a copy of the card. A friend of
mine (who also knows Mr. Heslet), and myself researched the matter, and
found out that yes, one card of him was issued, but the ACC designation
makes it difficult to trace.
The ACC designation for the card is V362-27. We've been able to
discern that it was issued in Canada, by a candy company, but don't know
by which one, or when.
My friend and I have are making a quest to find, purchase, and present a
card to Mr. Heslet before anything happens to him. So, we are willing
to pay a reasonable price for one. We don't know what one of these
cards would go for, so we're at a disadvantage there....
What I'd like to ask here is for some help...especially from any noters
up in Canada....can anyone possibly shed more light on the ACC
designation given above, who printed the card, possibly the number in
series if known, and perhaps an idea of where to look...? Has anyone
ever seen one of these cards in their travels, and for sale ? Is there
a reputable card firm in Canada (or stateside) that could do a search ?
Any and all information is greatly appreciated. And if anyone knows the
whereabouts of this card, preferably in fair to good condition, I will
purchase it.
I am going to be away in Washington D.C. until 2/3/92, and will not be
able to access notes or email again until 2/2/92. So, if any replies
come into this note, I won't be able to read or respond until that
time.
I really hope someone out there can help me here....
With many thanks....
Peter

Peter,
I've called a guy in southern Ontario that collects older Cdn baseball
cards and he is expected to call me back in a day or so.
Assuming he can identify the card, then we can see about trying to find
it.
Will advise when I hear back from him.
Regards,
R.M.F.
