327.0. "BORIS trading cards" by FRAGLE::GUTIERREZ (Who's on 1st.. What's on 2nd..) Wed Oct 16 1991 20:43

The BORIS trading cards are finally surfing around this area of
the country. Before they started showing up around here, I had
the good fortune of owning a set thanks to a fellow noter from
the West Coast (thanks Eric Wise) with whom I had been in contact.

He sent me some samples of the BORIS cards, and as soon as I saw
them, I knew I had to have a set. After buying a set from Eric,
I started looking for them around here, with no luck, and now,
	finally they show up.

If you are not familiar with these cards, you should take a look
at them, they are the most stunningly gorgeous cards I have ever
seen. BORIS VALLEJO is a fantasy artist who has created many
fantasy paintings, which have been published in books, and
calendars, and is well known all over the world. He was born in Lima,
Peru, and came to the United States during the 1980's, and now
	lives in Pennsylvania.

Many of his paintings depict men and women in sensual and erotic
poses, and some of them show women and men completely nude (if this
didn't grab your attention, I guess nothing will). If you have
already seen them, then you know what I am talking about, and if
you haven't, I'm sure you will want to own a set. There are 90
cards in the set, and the cards are made of excellent quality
material with a nice glossy finish.

I have seen the boxes at the card shows I went to recently for
as much as $35, and as low as $25.

John, yes, I have seen the Nightmare on Elm St., a dealer was
selling the factory set with the Holograms for $30, but you can
get them from Rotman's for $25.

About the Boris cards, I assume the $30 was for a box, but you can
buy a complete set for half that much. You don't have to worry
about the Supreme Court for me, I try to stay as far away from those
guys as I can, and that includes politicians also.

I picked up three packs @ .60 cents three weeks ago. Nice cards-they'd
    look go in plastic sheets.
Are there any CC, SP cards or holograms or is this the one true,
unadulterated, what-you-see-is-what-there-is set of cards in the free
    world today?
I saw in the paper that there are going to be Bible cards.

What you see is all their is. No hollos, just 90 very nice cards.

If you like Boris cards be on the lookout for Frank Frezetta(sp?)
cards that are due out in mid November. They are supose to be just as
    good.

Texas...West coast? Texans may like to think so may think so

    	RE: .4

Eric, good to see you back in the Notesfile. I knew that as soon
as I mentioned the Boris cards you would get in. Most of the
Texans I have talked to think that Texas is so big that it
stretches all the way out to the West Coast, you must be an exception.

It seems that some things like the Boris cards show up in the
West Coast, excuse me... Texas before they show up here in the
East Coast. Have you seen any other new trading cards over
there that we haven't mentioned in the Notesfile yet ?.
327.7Middle coast stuffGUCCI::EWISEPobodys NerfectFri Oct 18 1991 10:0316
All I have seen show up is Classic Monster Trucks, TRS (D&D),
    X-Force, and Shadoworld.

Re... how many Boris sets out of a wax box... I just bought a secnod
wax box and was able to get 4 sets with extras out of it.

Before anyone asks. No I have none for sale. I have already
traded 3 of them for a TRS factory set and am keeping the 4th as a
    backup set.

What is Shadoworld? It is a 7000 set limithed printing of which 300
sets are uncut and the first 100 of those signed by the writer Joseph
Sarno and illistrtor Paul Sonju. It is a 100 card set that is a
complete fantasy adventure with pictures on the front and the story on
the back. The art work is ok, but it is not up to Boris standards.
327.8Is there any difference ..?FRAGLE::GUTIERREZWho's on 1st.. What's on 2nd..Fri Oct 18 1991 10:547

Eric, is there any difference between the Boris Factory set and
the regular set that you put together by buying the wax packs ?.

Also, I saw a Dungeons & Dragos box for sale at a card show for
$30. How does that compare with the price you paid for a box
    	over in your area ?.
327.9NO Boris Factory SetGUCCI::EWISEPobodys NerfectFri Oct 18 1991 11:129
re Boris factory sets. I don't know of any such animal. The factory set
I am getting is the TSR / D&D set.

The D & D set boxes are going for $27 to $30 here.

The factory set of D & D is the one that has 750 cards in it. Some of
those are reprints of the ones that have been in Dragon mag, 20 total.
So the wax box collectors will get a 730 card set and the factory set
buyers will have the extra 20 mag cards as well.
327.10I told the witch doctor I was in love with youUSRCV2::SAPPBTue Oct 22 1991 10:079
I have bought 7 or 8 packs over the past two weeks. Either I've been
lucky or the distribution of this set is incredible. I have only gotten
four (count 'em-Four!) doubles. Upperdeck should be takin' notes.

Any idea what singles are going for? Are some going for more than
others? If so based on what(probably the ones with the naked babes).

There was a dealer at a card show that was selling singles of the
BORIS cards. The commons were $0.25, and the ones with the pictures
of the naked bodies were selling for $1, and some for as much as
$2. There are a couple of cards that were short printed, they
are number 71 & 72. One dealer told me that he had quite a few
sets just missing those 2 cards.

Its kind of like that proline football card of the blond with the hot
keester. All the dealers have that one on disply in smudge/drool proof

Actually, there is a set of baseball cards put by Playboy, featuring
none other than ... Morganna, the kissing bandit.

    Supposedly, only 5,000 were produced.

Morganna is a semi-regular on the card show circuit.

There is also a set of posters put out by the Bench Warmers. I've
seen them at a couple of shows (the models were there hawking the
posters, and autographing them for you), and most anyone who reads
SCD has probably seen a picture or two of them.

PlayBoy also has a set of autographed deluxe photos you can get of
most any recent model. Kind of pricey, but for some people ...

I'm surprised ProSet hasn't done anything along those lines yet.

    about the Boris Trading Cards.

    Hey Juan, how are ya??

If anyone is interested, there is supposed to be an "autographed"
Boris Trading Card series. It is supposed to come out sometime in
the November/December time frame. I'll post an update when I know
    more.

Saw an autographed Boris card at a card show this past weekend, 11-23.
It's not a regular issue card with his autograph, but a card that has
"1991 Boris Vallejo Autograph Card" (methinks) printed on the front,
along with the title "Diving" in the lower right corner. The painting
was of a woman diving off a high cliff with a futuristic city in the
background. The back of the card had absolutely no printing, only the
autograph of Boris. Since there are only 1000 of these autograph cards
and the dealer being a Boris fan, darn it, he wouldn't sell the card to
me. I was going to offer him ten whole dollars!! What a cheapskate...
    ;-)

    Bummed out...

327.20Boris II coming....SDOCS1::MONDARESMon Dec 09 1991 13:0810
I just place my order for Boris II trading cards. I have no idea
what the price per box is, but I guess at about $28-$32. The 2nd
series will also have randomly inserted autograph cards totaling
1000, and a randomly inserted(?) scratch-off card which is an instant
winner of an autographed uncut sheet of 2nd series cards

Should hit the card stores probably March '92.

I called Comic Images last week to speak to someone about the short
run/print of card numbers 71 and 72. The rep said that they were
aware of it, but couldn't fill any request to send ANYONE these two
cards. She (the rep) also said that on the CardNet(?), these two
cards were a very hot/hard item to get ahold of. She also said that
a box of unautographed cards would yield two, maybe three if you're
    lucky, complete sets of cards.

Would anyone like a BORIS original?

Look at card # 35 in Boris series 1

Their is a book store in town that has it. It is about
2ft by 4ft in size with a large frame also. The manager states that it
is the original, but I have no way of knowing as I am not into art. I
can see brush strokes on it though. They ar asking $4,000.00 for it.

On one of the backs of the Series 1 cards, a statement was made that
Boris keeps possession of all of his paintings.

If you look in the lower right or left of the painting, it should
    have Boris' name.

If it's a print, litho, whatever, it'll still have his name.

I have a very high quality litho print of one of Frank Frazetta's
paintings ("Death Dealer" -- my favorite! 8^) -- and you'd swear
    it was an original painting.

    Bill,

The Boris II cards are available now. I just saw some at a store
called Comically Speaking here in Maynard Mass. I am still
debating about whether or not to get them. However, I did pick up
some of the new Olivia Cards. If you like the Boris cards, then
you should love the Olivia Cards (even though they only feature
women). The Olivia set also consist of 90 cards with 6 Prism
    cards that are very rare.

Thanks for the info. I picked up hand coallated sets of both(Borris 2
and Olivia) for $7 each. I wasn't really impressed with the Borris
prisims and I wasn't about to shell out $12 for Olivia prisims so I
thought buying sets was the best way to go.

Oh yeah, no cards were "accidently" short printed in Borris 2 unlike
Borris 1. Impel doesn't have to resort this tactic anymore- they now
    have inserts.
