325.0. "Tamper/counterfit proof?" by GUCCI::EWISE (Pobodys Nerfect) Thu Oct 03 1991 14:57

	 I just got a package of the TSR 1991 collector cards. $1.00 per pack.

	 On the front of the pack it states...

	16 Fantasy Cards
	Counterfit Proof
	Limited Edition
	Random Sequencing
	Tamper Proof Pack

	 I can see nothing to prevent counterfiting and the only thing
	tamper proof about the pack I can see is that it is a foil pack.

	 What do they do to make cards Counterfit Proof, and is the foil pack
	what makes it a Tamper Proof Pack?

    What are TSR cards (first)?

    Second, ask John St. Onge if foil packs are tamper-proof.

    	 Yes the TSR cards are the Dungeons and Dragons cards.

    	 They have cards for the following subsets of D&D

    	 	AD&D 2nd Edition	 	Forgotten Realms
    	 	Greyhawk		 	Spelljammer
    	 	Dragonlance   			Ravenloft

    	So what happened to John St.Onge?

    Like he said, he found some Red Sox tix in a pack of UD BB.

    This is no BS (like the Aaron card [hi Mike!] 8^). I had some
    Red Sox tix I was holding for John.

    Decided to get cute with him. I cut a slit in the TAMPER PROOF
    foil wrapper, placed the cards in there, and was able to mask
    it from John.

    He opened the pack up, never even noticed it had been slit open.

    Like John said -- if it can be opened, it can be resealed.

325.6Tip of the week....HANNAH::OBRIENFri Oct 04 1991 14:266
	Don't buy boxes of unwrapped Upper Deck anything. By opening the
	top pack in the pile, a sleazeball can tell which cards are in every
	pack under it.

    		Could you elaborate a little more on that ?. How can you
    	tell which cards are under it ?.
325.9I'm not going to say....HANNAH::OBRIENFri Oct 04 1991 16:2514

	I'm not going to describe how it's done for the obvious reason; I
	don't want to encourage anyone to do it.

	As a corollary, I would add: Don't buy single packs of UD anything
	unless you trust the person/dealer your buying them from.

	For you dealers, I would also encourage you to mix up your boxes
	after opening, to discourage anyone who knows how to 'read' the
	UD packaging order.
