| I paid $2.75 for a pack. Nice cards. Looks like a lot smaller set.
(Around 150-175 or so?) I just bought the one and got Peete and
Sanders, so unless I see the price drop, I'm happy. Small insignia
in bottom right corner with no border around the card.

According to what I've heard, these will be issued in two 150-card
series (also PS PLT HK).
12 cards per pack, 36 cards ber box, 10 boxes per half-case, 20 boxes
per "master" case.
Limited to production of 10,000 master cases.
Doing the math on these numbers, produces the following results:
- There will be 86,400,000 PS PLT FB cards producted in series I.
- Assuming equal distribution of each card, that means there will
be 576,000 of each card available.
That's an awful lot of cards for $99/box ...
(Especially knowing that if BJ's was charging $20/box, then the SRP
is probably around .75 a pack).

John,
I think eventually we will be seeing sticktly the premium sets,
it's going to take a few years to phase into that though. My feeling
is that the costs to produce these will drop because the volume
will grow. The volume will grow because the distribution will be
better, we will see more and more card quantity at Kmart ect. the
collector will be happy and the price might even drop.

Not to be a stick in the mud Jim, but I agree with John. I
don't think the price(s) to produce these sets is any more
significant than it takes for the normal sets.
These cards are very similar to the Topps "Rookie" cards they
put in jumbo packs each year, and offer through send-aways, both
in quality (nice card stock, high gloss, etc.), and quantity.
Hell, yoy can usually get the Topps Tiffany sets for a lot less
than TSC is going for, and they are in FAR fewer quantities.

Well guys there is probably no sense in debating this into a rat-hole,
so let's agree to disagree on the costs of setting up and implementing
a completly different and more involved state of the art process.
By the way has anyone seen these cards at any of the retailers
yet?

Well Jim, it was Pro Set president Lud Denny who said that they
can design a card, and begin printing it within an hour.
They have their own presses, and don't work through a middle-man
printer.
They also do Hopps cards, and I've been told that they do Impel's
cards too (althought, I like the quality of Impel and Hoops much
more than any product ProSet's put out).

Gag. Ack. Throw-up. Make me sick. Toss lunch. Blow chow.
Projectile vomiting. Get the picture yet? 8^)
I called Smokey's in Vegas the other day. They're BUY price is
700$/case ($35/box).
Anyone want to guess what their sell price is? C'mon take a wild
guess. This is for either football or hockey ...
Okay, I'll hide it behind a form-feed for those faint of heart:
$125.00 /box (yes, one-hundred-twenty-five dollars PER box)

Well guys, they're out there.
About 1/2 of the dealers at the "Joe D" show this weekend had
them.
Prices ranged from $55-70/box (one dealer had $100/2 boxes).
This is the first weekend they were out there in "quantity" at
a show, that I've seen.
I think the price will drop a little more -- maybe even close to
Fleer Ultra prices ($30-40).
John and I fell two cards shy of two sets out of one box. Two of
you can likely get a set of these for a very reasonable price if
you shop around.
I'd definitely look for them far below what some of the bigger and
local dealers are selling them for.

Well, I saw these cards at two seperate show in southern nh today
for $39 and $40 per box. I picked one up and like roy and John was
two cards short of two complete sets. Hard to tell whether this is
just a dip in prices or perhaps they will go even lower. Don't pay
more than $1.50/pack or $50/box at this point, shop around because
in general football is pretty dead (at least in the new england area).
Other dealers at the shows were holding at $50 and above, but only
the guys at $40 were selling any.

Series II is out for you football die hards. I picked up a box for
$29 at the clemens show in nh last sunday. 175 cards in this second
series (150 in series I), with PC-1 thru PC-10 extras also. Haven't
finished collating the box yet, I'll post the results when I do, but
seeing as it is 175 cards, getting 2 sets plus a 3rd partial like
series 1, probably won't be as easy.
Some names in series II: Dan McGwire, Russell Maryland, PC cards
that I have run across so far include ones of Barry Sanders & Thurman
Thomas.

I knew they'd do it, but I was hoping they'd print series II before
some head idjit at ProSet said "hey, let's throw some PC cards into
our Platinum Football too" ...
You know. I'd limit myself to any company's cards who doesn't stoop
to gimmicks and BS to sell their cards, but then I'd be stuck
collecting Barbie and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cards with The
Saint!

306.28 | series II box breakdown | DDIF::TANCILL | long may you run | Fri Dec 06 1991 01:52 | 19 |
|
Breakdown on a series II box:
1 complete set of regular numbers 151-315, plus the following PCs of
the 10 that comprise the remaining cards in the 175 card series II:
PC-1 Bobby Hebert "Platinum Profile"
PC-2 Ark Monk (all hail) "Platinum Profile"
PC-3 Kenny Walker "Platinum Profile"
PC-8 Barry Sanders "Platinum Game Breaker"
PC-9 Emmitt Smith "Platinum Game Breaker"
PC-10 Thurman Thomas "Platinum Game Breaker"
7 cards short of a second 151-315 set, 105 towards a third set of
151-315 and 3 quadruples. All in all pretty good distribution again
for this series.
