I thought some of you might be interested in this article I read in the 'Baseball Card News' Sept. 16th issue. This is the way the article reads: An exciting new collecting concept comes to football cards! What makes these cards truly unique is the "Wild Card" concept. 1% of the entire print run is "Wild," bearing a Yellow Stripe with a number (either 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 or 1000) in the corner of the cards. This is where the fun begins! If you get a card with a 5 on it, send it to Wild Card and receive 5 cards of the player pictured! The Number of the strip cor- rsponds with the number of cards Will Card will send you! The same holds true in reverse, if you collect for instance, 10 Dan McGwire cards, you can send them to Wild Card for a Dan McGwire with a 10 strip on it! Think of what fun collecting a set of 5's would be, your set would actually be worth 5 sets, possibly more! Some lucky collectors will get 1000 of one of the players in the set - Good Hunting! The premier edition of Wild Card Football is loaded with Rookie Propects like Dan McGwire, Todd Marinovich and monay more! Each card front is emblazened with a football-shaped hologram and each side is full gloss! (That's right, Both sides!) What makes these cards truly unique is the Wild Card concept. With only 200,000 10 box cases to be printed, with 36 packs comprising each box, each pack containing 15 cards (Super Short!) Each case of Wild Card Football is individually numbered 1 throught 200,000 to insure the limit on the printing run is true. 1991 Wild Card Football will be an investment item not to be missed! -------- End of Article ------ BIG BOB's of Milford, Conn. is advertising this... His number is 1-800-432-2028 (9am-11pm) 7 days a week Mastercard/Visa no extra charge ------------------------ Also, in this issue of BCN, there are dealers advertising that they will pay you 2,000$ for the Dan McGwire with the 1000 number strip! Well, whatda think? Mike

My first thought, madness! My second thought, if someone was to keep their 1000 card for 5 yrs., will they still be able to redeem it? I doubt it. Jim

That was me first question too.. and knew it would be the first thing asked... Maybe you'ld be able to redeem it until the company went out of business. Only a guess... Mike

According to SCD, many players that Wild Cards alleged would be in their set cannot be included due to contracts with Classic and Star Pics. There are almost 30 players in this list, the notables being Rocket Ismail, Herman Moore, Russell Maryland, Huey Richardson, Ted Washington, Todd Lyght, Antone Davis, Aaron Craver, Tim Barnett, Bill Musgrave and Charles McRae. Wild Cards told SCD it would have all but 2 first rounders and all second round picks. Interesting development. Maybe McGwire will keep hobbyists interested but it looks like many will be upset at the lack of top rookies. It also looks like Wild Cards plans to do basketball as well. If they are locked out of the top rookies due to exclusive contracts, they're in trouble. Of the top 4 picks, only Larry Johnson has not signed an exclusive. Anderson, Owens, Mutombo, Smith and others are exclusive. So, be careful out there.
