Yeah, I'd give them my business too, after the
stunt they pulled with UD FB.

Go ahead, tell me "UD cut the orders", "lottery
    system", "lawsuit", etc.

Call SMK and ask them if they'll be getting UD
FB in. The answer is YES.

Then ask them if they are going to fill their
    pre-orders. The answer is NO.

    	Scummy? Understatement.

I talked to Steve and SMK last night in Hudson, MA. He
passed along the following information on the Score Hockey
cards for this year. There will be three different versions
    	printed this year...

USA - same as last year and will come in 1 series with
            a total of 440 cards.

Canadian - the is the new addition as it will be in all
english but it will have 660 cards and be distributed
in Series I and Series II.

Bi-Lingual - same as last year with both english/french
printing. This will also have 660 cards in 2 Series.

The pre-order forms are in from SMK and they have the following
prices setup. As a note, Score has increased the retail price
of wax packs to $.55 this year.

    		All Wax Packs $14.85 Box
                	           $285.00 Case (20 boxes)
USA Blister Packs $120.00 Case (48 blisters)

    		USA Set (440) $14.40
                	           $330.00 Case (24 sets)

        	Canadian Set (660) $21.50
                	           $330.00 Case (16 sets)

The deadlines for pre-orders are Sept 6th for all wax packs
and blister packs. The USA Sets deadline is Oct 11th.

There is an alternative to pre-ordering from SMK, you can do it from
Rotman's in Worcester. Here are the prices :

    	USA Factory Set $ 13.99
    	Canadian Factory set 19.95

    	Wax boxes 13.99

The price is the same for all wax boxes, American or Canadian,
English or Bilingual, Series I or II.

These prices are better than SMK, and with every order, you get
50 free Topps cards, you have about 4 different years to choose
from, but you have to ask for them, you don't get them automatically.

They also have Pro Line football boxes for $25.95. For non-sports
fans, they have STAR TREK wax boxes for $17, T2 boxes for $14

Forgot to mention that when I was at Rotman's yesterday, they also
had the new LINE DRIVE AA & LINE DRIVE AAA wax boxes, but don't
remember the prices, and I heard one of the girls talking to a
customer say that they will definitively have UD FOOTBALL next
week, but didn't know how much they will be selling it for.

I read an ad in one of my comics that in the 440 cards to the US
set there will 4 bobby orr cards and 3 eric lindros cards there
is also a special very limited Orr & Lindros combined card both guys
on it and X number (I think 1600) have been autographed by both
      people.

Does anyone know any more about this set or these special cards are
they actually part of the regular set or are they really random
inserts or are the autographed ones the random inserts ?

The ad also stated that you can by for $6. a special 40 card set of
stars and upcoming stars by mail order only.

When are SCORE expected to go on sale ?

    Hi, Noters

Note 291.6 refrences the fact you can preorder 1991 Score Hockey
Sets USA 440Card set for 14.40. I have been looking for Lindros Rookies
and a few dealers have them for sale between 12-14 dollars. I would
rather pay 14.40 for a complete factory set if this is the set with
that rookie card. Could someone please give me advice on how to order
through SMK, Phone number is what I am looking for. Another noter
mentioned Rotmans, for a better Price, but I live in N.H. do they take
phone orders if so I would appreciate some advice.

                           Regards,

Score Hockey is out up here in Canada...the "English" version. I
didn't think they played hockey in England ;^)

THe Bobby Orr's are reasonably scarce (unsigned ones). They are going
for about $60-70 up here. Early market, though. There are 270,000 Orr
cards of four different types, so they are fairly scarce.

The "english" version series I has filtered down to southern nh,
the dealer who had them was claiming the canadien/english version
was the shortest print, factories would not be made of this version
either, just the US (440) and bi-lingual (660) would be in the
factory sets. This was all a precursor to the price pitch: $20/box.

The Canadian edition in english is in Western NY too. Same price
(.50-pk, $20-bx) and same packaging as last year. Picked up 5 packs +
did pretty well (4 Gretzkys, 3 Hull, Fedorov, Lindros). All my packs
came with several top prospect cards on top, several white trophy or
special cards in the middle and several regular cards on the bottom.
I hate these top prospect cards. I have never heard of any of these
guys + I have a slew of these things from last year. Are any of them
    worth anything?
Other than that they're not bad cards. Red is a new color for hockey
    cards.
Since they came out a few days after Topps, I won't be tempted to buy
    any topps now.

Huh? Do these boxes have more than 36 packs in them? Most boxes have
36 packes in them...at .50/pack that would be umm....$18 So why $20/box?

You hate them...please send them to me... I'll take 'em.

Some of lasts years Score "Top Prospect" cards include Mats Sundin, Jaromir
Jagr, Mike Ricci, Wes Walz, etc... If you haven't heard of any of these then
you might not recognize many of the others (esp the newer ones). Other
players on some of the top prospect cards will take more time to become
commonly known names...

I picked up five packs of the new Topps hockey to get a look at them... and I
knew about every player... including their top prospects, plus a "future
NHLer" card of a Soviet player drafted but not yet playing in the NHL.

Yea, I caught the price discrepency too which is why I only picked up a
few packs. None the less, that is what they are going for. How much are
they asking in your neck of the woods?

The cards you mentioned were top draft pick cards. There is a
difference between those and top prosepect cards.

You like this years topps cards and you got lucky with the packs you
    bought. so live it up.

    Dan,
What was that Soviet Top prospect Topps card you mentioned? Was it
Kamensky or Bure? I've been hearing raves about both players.
I suppose in time I'll eat my words over those score top prospects
but for the time being it's a bit annoying when you've never heard of
1/3 of the players in a pack.

Ya, lotsa raves about these two... but no, the card is "Future NHLer" Dimitri
Mironov... Recently drafted ('91) in the 8th round by Toronto...played for
the Red Army. I hope they have Kamensky or Bure cards.

what else... got a Coffey highlight card, two team jersey cards (Ottawa

In the December BASEBALL CARDS magazine, some of the mail order firms
announced the following for Score hockey prices.

    Item Price Range

    USA 14.95 - 18.95
    CANADA Series I 14.95 - 18.95
    CANADA Series II 14.95 - 16.95
    CANADA Bi-Lingual Series I 14.95 - 18.95
    CANADA Bi-Lingual Series II 14.95 - 16.95

There will be plenty of cards available. No short printing, no very
rare, no only printed in downtown Montreal for an hour or so. No
matter what dealers say, Score hockey will be in abundance.

I bought 2 boxes last night at $15.95 per box. Something is a little
crazy here, both boxes read [ENGLISH EDITION],when I look at the new
Becketts, all the numbers are not under (91-92 American),their under
(91-92 Canadian). I also noticed that there is no American Flag,on the
back of all the cards there is a Canadian Flag, and all the lettering
on the card is in English. I also got 2 Bobby Orr cards, unfortunately

You did get the English edition John. The *CANADIEN* English edition.

There are three sets this year from Score:

    	(2) Canadien sets.

    	    (1) Bilingual edition -- 660 cards, 2 330-card series, and
available in factory set (bonus cards included). I am
not sure what color borders this set will have.

    	    (1) English edition -- 660 cards, 2 330-card series, and NOT
available in factory set (bonus cards NOT included).

    	        | This is the set that is available right now. In red
    	        | wax-boxes, with red borders on the cards.

    	(1) American Set - 440 cards, released in 1 series, and available
in factory set (bonus cards included). I believe this set
will have purple borders, and that this is the promo that
everyone keeps seeing pictures of (like on the SCD cover).

I also remember reading somewhere that Score promised that the top
100 players will have different cards in all THREE sets.

    Good luck.

Can someone answer this question, when you buy your wax boxes
are they sealed. Up here (Kanata. Ont) all wax boxes I've seen
either at card shows or dealers are all unsealed boxes. I'm
beginning to believe that the dealers are opening the wax boxes
and removing the good paks. No one I know have gott'en any Orr
cards from score but the dealers seem to have hundreds already.
do you think theres any truth to what I'm thinking, (I've been
told that there is a code that the dealers know that will identify
the good cards ) again any truth to this. thanks in advance for

The boxes I've seen are shrink wrapped in cellophane. I've found this
to apply to all the boxes I've bought over past few years.
Regarding the Orr cards, if the Orr card is included in the 15 cards
then ya got me how they pull it off (maybe they know which pack in the
boxes have these cards and crack open all the boxes, check those packs
and replace those packs) however if the Orr card is the 16th card in a
pack then maybe they do it like that guy in the Star Trek file finds
the holograms by holding two packs together feeling for the one with
the extra cards. Just my guesses.

How's the distribution on the boxes (% of set in box)?

I think that is way overpriced, they'll probably end up in
the $10-$15 range. They are not going to be any rarer than last years
    Lindros cards.

Ya, I'd heard a range of about $50-$100. That's incredible considering
the number of these cards that there are... For that money you could buy
his 3rd year card!

Rotman's in Worcester, Mass. has the Score Canadien/Bilingual
    wax boxes in (series I).

    Price: $16.99

Or you can pre-order (yes, still Dan! 8^) a factory set of the
same for $20.95, expected arrival is February 1992.

Factory sets for the AMerican edition (440) cards are available
through pre-order for $15.95, and are expected in this month
    (November).

Supposedly the American edition is available in wax, but I saw
none this weekend (I went on Sunday), or at Rotman's. I find it
hard to believe that the factory sets will be out until the wax
product has had sufficient time to circulate through-out the
    hobby.

I saw Score American(purple box) a week and a half ago for the first
time. Didn't buy any or check the price though.
I'm curious to see if anyone has bought any yet and can mention the
    differences between the sets.
How many players have different cards for each set.? Any different
    subsets? Highlight cards?
All we need is for all the companies to adopt this several different
sets strategy and it will be the end of western civilization as we know
it today. In some ways they already do with their french + english
    editions.

Score Young Superstars sets are out and dealers got STACKS of 'em.
They're charging $7-$8 which isn't bad considering if you ordered 2
months ago from the company you only saved yourself a buck and you're
probably still waiting for them to arrive.
In this neck of the woods last year, only a few dealers had them. They
were charging $8 at first then they realized if they sold the Lindros
and Fedorov separately they could make twice that and sets rapidly
went up to $12 then $15 and now they're currently $18.
The cards themselves are glossy with a tan border around the picture
and the players included in the set are more or less the same as last
year with a few good additions (Jagr, Belfour, Hodge Jr.) but its still
    a 40 card set.

Got my set in the mail from Score last week (day after Christmas). Nice
cards. Not the greatest choices in my opinion though. They left out a
lot and included some not-so-young Young Superstars. Off the top of my
head, there was no Kevin Stevens, Petr Nedved, Pavel Bure, or Lidstrom. But
it included Sakic (who is a star - but no longer new news)...and a couple
others who have been around more than a couple years.

Anyway, I still like the set and now wish I picked up the set last year. Maybe
I still will - but I just hate paying a lot :-)

I believe so. I haven't heard of anyone getting their check returned.

Dealers have it in plentitude for around $5.75-$7.

    Probably quicker/cheaper/easier than dealing w/Score ... ;^)

From yesterday's (1/7/92) USA Today (NHL sub-section of the Sports
    page).

"THEIR HEROES. Score's new Pinnacle hockey card issue has a subset
of NHL stars depicted on the same card with their heroes.

Most had predictable choices: Montreal's Patrick Roy picked Rogie
Vachon, Los Angeles' Luc Robitaille is pictured with Marcel
Dionne and Calgary's Gary Suter is with Bobby Orr.

But some choices were unique: Buffalo's Clint Malachuk will appear
on a card with Canadien rodeo star Coleman Robinson. And St. Louis'
Brett Hull wants to be pictured with his idol -- Jack Nicklaus --
but the golfing legend hasn't given approval.

Minnesota's Brian Bellows listed his three heroes as Ken Dryden,
Vince Lombardio, and Chsitopher Columbus. 'We decided to use Dryden
because it was easier to get a contract', Score spokesman Dean
     Golembeski said.

Wrong. The Hall of Fame goalie asked for more money than what Score
paid the other subjects, so the Bellows card was eliminated."

The second series of the first set are out. Nothing big except they're
blue. I'm really getting a kick out of the colors of these cards. So
far we have red, purple, tan, blue and you know the rookie & traded set
is going to be something like teal or magenta.

well, the score rookie & traded set is out and my crack in .52 about
them being teal is not to far of base. They're a darkish green color.
Not a bad set for $10-12 bucks. Alot rookies and san jose sharks. Of
course there's a Lindros card (his mom would get mad if Score made a
set without 1 of his cards) in Olympic attire.

I guess all thats left for Score this season is the cryin' (and pinacle)
