243.0. "Starpics" by THOTH::LAROCHE () Wed Feb 13 1991 12:57

    I saw a set of 90-91 Starpics at a show this weekend . It's the first
    set I've seen and know little else about them other than they are a 70
    card set of last years top prospects . I didn't notice any official
    endorsements on them either . They boxes were sealed and a limited few
    contain autographed cards . He wanted $30 for them . I'd appreciate any
    other info .

    	Thanks,

    They're current rookies (Brown, Coleman, Payton etc.. plus a "Mr."
    Robinson card. Some random ones are autographed...)

243.3Information on StarPics GSMART::MATOSWed Feb 20 1991 10:4122

    StarPics, is a Michigan based company run by a card collector, issued
    this first set of pre-NBA, post-college in August of 1990. Cards
    were issued in a boxed set and each card featured basketballs on its
    borders with a scouting report on each player on the back.
      Though the set was refused a license by the NBA(thus no NBA team
    affiliations), StarPics contracted each player for permission to be
    included in the set.
    Notable about the StarPic set is the inclusion of an autograph by one
    of the players featured on the card in every 50th box. Also, five sets
    with each card signed by the players was issued.
      Included here are special cards of David Robinson, Danny Ferry,
    1990 NCAA champs UNLV team, 1990 NIT champs Vanderbilt, and NCAA Coach
    of the year Jim Calhoun.

243.4No Rumeal Robinson cardEVETPU::MCEVOYWed Feb 20 1991 11:387
    also of note, there is no StarPix card of Rumeal Robinson, the number 10
    pick in the draft, I believe; This is puzzling since the company
    is out of Michigan, I wonder if he refused to let them make his
    card made for some reason. Robinson is in both the Hoops II and the
    SkyBox II sets.

243.6STARPICS - DEE BROWNDELNI::BAKERMon Feb 25 1991 11:421
    ...What's the going price (wholesale/retail) for a Dee Brown card?
243.7THOTH::LAROCHEMon Feb 25 1991 12:508

    I saw the Dee Brown card listed for 35 cents in a card collectors digest
    at a book store this weekend . It also listed the whole set for $12.00.
    I've also see the Dee Brown card between $2.00 and $4.50 at shows !

243.8Dee BrownGSMART::MATOSTue Feb 26 1991 08:477
    	Dee Browns card has gone from a $1 - $5, since he won the slam
    dunk contest and Star pic looks like is the only set that has a Dee
    Brown card. Unless Fleer includes one in there update set soon
    to come out. Skybox and Hoops didn't include him in there update
    sets for this year.
