225.1 | Without Question, a Joe D. or Mickey Mantle Card. | AKOCOA::GASPARONI | | Tue Dec 18 1990 13:42 | 11 |
| Sue, if your friends brother is around middle age, the only two players
worth investing that kind of money in is Joe D. or Mickey Mantle, and
preferably, Mickey Mantle, because there is so much more in the way of
cards, and other memorablia out there with the Mick on it. Joe D. is a
little harder to find for that price in the way of baseball cards. You
can find Mantle cards from the 1960's for that price range, depending
on condition. If he doesn't collect cards, I would recommend an
autographed baseball, or picture of any of the Yankees during their
golden years, which are the 50's and 60's so he can display them. If
I was to choose a Mantle card for that price range, the 1965 Topps card
is a very nice looking card.

| RE: '65 Mantle
It is a nice looking card, but it "books"for about $375.00. I Just last
month traded a NrMnt one away for some Willie Mays cards. The '66
Mantle books for around $175.00, looks real nice, and there seem to be
alot around. There's a dealer close to me who has about 7 or 8 of them
in his display case (California).

225.3 | Mantle stuff in California. | AKOCOA::GASPARONI | | Wed Dec 19 1990 08:42 | 4 |
| John D. , does that dealer have any other odd ball Mantle things for
sale, like some of the Topps inserts of the 1960's, stamps, rub-offs,
old magazines? Are the prices of Mantle stuff out in (Calif.) as high
as they are on the East coast?

225.4 | They don't sell... | RAYBOK::DAMIANO | If it ain't tight, it ain't right | Wed Dec 19 1990 11:36 | 14 |
| I didn't see any "oddball" stuff at his store, but he does have
autographed photos and baseballs. Mantle stuff is always high priced,
but they'll wheel and deal with you. Mantle cards are just plain not
moving; I wish I had a nickel for everytime a dealer's told me that the
Mantle market is soft. As I said in my last note, I had a nice 1965
Mantle that I shopped around for a year and a half. Most dealers
wouldn't even look at it, and those few that did wouldn't touch it
unless I was willing to part with it for a pittance. I finally ran into
a collector at a show that traded me some Willie Mays stuff that I was
hot for.
To make a long story short, you can get "deals" on Mantle cards.

| I'd suggest the 53 Bowman Color with Berra, Mantle and Bauer sitting on
the dugout steps.

225.6 | Best Yankee Card Ever | ASDS::KELLY | | Thu Dec 27 1990 10:26 | 4 |
| So what did happen???
Obviously the card that I proposed is the best yankee card of all time.
Right?

the card you're proposing - esp. in regards to price.
Anyone else have suggestions?

| Hi Susan, Please understand that there is some good natured ribbing
going on in .6. The 53 Bowman has three of the Yankee greats
Mantle, Berra and Bauer restng on the dugout steps at the old
Yankee Stadium. I like the card because it isn't posed it's
a real shot and because the players on the card bridge the Yankees from
the late 1940's through the mid 1980's.
Becketts lists the card from $250-$375. A really nice copy will sell
for $ 325. If you would like some other ideas give me a call at
dtn 276-8156.
