    This is very interesting that DR will also have a promotion going on.
    * If those players are the elite what would we call the true HOF's?

212.4Sets were easy to get this yearWRKSYS::SCHWARTZFri Nov 16 1990 07:558

      The companies are probably doing something in response to all
    the hate mail and negative phone calls they recieved this year.
    They have to come up with gimmicks to sell wax. Notice how much
    of the 90 stuff is still out there? My pet peeve...TWO SERIES..
    How stupid! I'm with John, wait for the cheap factory sets!
     Another reason for waiting for sets is that most of the CR_P in
    wax is way off center, while the sets are mint or near mint IMO.
212.5ErrorsEBBV03::MONDALTOMon Nov 26 1990 06:318
    I wonder what,the big ERRORS are going to be ? Last year it was
    the ALL STAR cards,and a few reversed Photos. This year it will
    probably have Nolan Ryans (PASSING RECORD),and Cecil Fielder's
    card reading LB,(Line Backer) instead if OF.... :-( ;-)

                                          John

    ....or maybe they will make an error free set since they proved they
    could do it with Leaf. :>) If they don't........we know what they are
    up to then. Btw, from what I've seen lately, the error craze is over.
    Pro Set has seen to that.:>)

    Here's one for ya. I had a dealer tell me that Donruss was cutting
    thier allotments to the dealers. He said that they would be real
    scarce, and were the "one's to get". He claimed that they cut him back
    to only one case, but that he had "connections" in case I wanted any.

    I told him to give it to someone else.

    Yes!! and if you were to believe that one ...he had another one to
    tell you!! They make money by selling wax and sets. They will produce
    to satisfy demand and that's one you can believe.
212.9scarce= card hobby buzz wordDLO15::BOSSOBury my heart with the S & L'sMon Nov 26 1990 13:5711
    re: the last couple

    Donruss has probably cut back on their dealers to allow more product
    for wholesalers and retailers. Every time I have tried to buy wax from
    a dealer, I've been told their order was cutback. Over the last 3
    years have you noticed how much Donruss there is at Toys R US?

    More hype. I have not heard anything about Donruss being 'scarce' in
    '91.  Has anybody else?

	I purchased a box last night on the way home for $16.50 + 7% tax (RI).

	I was kind of upset with the distribution, but ha, its early!

	There are 398 cards in Series I (Thats counting 12 BC cards)
		I found 18 of the 24 Diamond Kings.
		I found  14 of the 40 Rated Rookies. 8^(
		I found   6 of the ?? All-Stars. 8^(
		I found 284 of the 398 cards in Series I.

	I found more doubles and triples then I found cards I needed. There
	where even a dozen cards I found miss cut, so badly mis-card that I
	plan on throwing them away.

	Does anyone know if there going to split up the Rated Rookie and All
	Star cards between the two sets, or should I be able to found them
	all in Series I?

	There a nice looking card!

212.11Concord Card Shop has 1991 DR in Stock.AKOCOA::GASPARONIFri Dec 07 1990 08:2412
    The Concord Card Shop has new DR 1991 cards, if anyone is interested.
    $.75 per pack, $24.95 per box, and he told me these were flown in
    special, so he could sell some early on for Christmas. He didn't say
    if they were scarse, but he said he didn't have to many boxes and would
    probably be gone by the weekend. I guess there running a $2M
    promotion, offering autographed Ryne Sandberg cards, and other instant
    wins. Sorry to say, I didn't win anything. The color is blue this
    year vs. the orange card of last year, but they pretty much look like
    a typical DR card. Isn't it funny how each company has its own look.
    Fleer, Topps, Score and UD, and almost forgot the biggy, Classic. I
    guess they set up there presses, and stay with the same look. I have
    to say that the 1988 Score card looks the best.
212.13SBGPX2::BELISLEMike Belisle MRO4-1/H20 297.3324Fri Dec 07 1990 09:5015
	Ya, it was shrink wrapped.. No 'Special' cards in my box
	I doubt we find any, if someone does please mention it.

	I think the Bonus highlight cards are the BC* cards.
	You may be right about the All-Star cards being just
	american league in series I, because all six of the
	one I got where American League. That means I got 6
	out of 20 or 30%, that stinks!

	Well, time to buy another box..
	I'll be going to a show on Saturday in Lincoln, R.I.,
	If the price is right, I'll buy another box.

    I opened 2 boxes of cards and got real lucky to get a Doug Drabek
    >> The Elite Series << card. The number on the back is
    03218/10,000. I also saw the Ceciel Fielder card and they are a good
    looking card. Is there any word out yet on the value of these Elite

212.22IMO..They stink!WRKSYS::SCHWARTZMon Dec 17 1990 10:2715

       I have to throw my $.02 into this before somebody gets the
    impression that these are nice cards. Here is what I found..
    Two boxes bought at the show in Sturbridge. No complete set after
    opening the Two boxes and a number of wax packs, still short about 15
    or more cards. I would venture to say that at least 50% of the cards
    are way off center and most cards have that "soft" focus look to them.
    If you want to build a mint set..you are going to buy a lot of cards.
      I am giving up on this set and am going to wait for factory sets. It
    will be a damn sight cheaper in the long run. I would have thought they
    would have put some of the more popular players in the first series to
    create a demand (Justice, Maas,Thomas). If they are in the set, I
    haven't seen them yet (I'm missing checklists).
     I did like the color of the borders, but other than that, I can't
    say to much.
212.23Here is what I foundFRAGLE::GUTIERREZMon Dec 17 1990 11:3324

    	Here is my 2 cents worth:

    	I bought 2 boxes from a dealer in Marlboro for $18 a piece, and I was
	able to put together 1 complete set minus one of the Rated Rookie
    	cards, which I was able to buy at a card show I attended yesterday.
    	On the other hand, I have also seen dealers selling the wax boxes for
    	$20 and $25 each, and individual wax packs for $0.60 and $0.75 each.

    	I was able to get at least 1 complete Willie Stargel puzzle picture
    	set and many duplicates for a second set.
    	At the card show I saw dealers selling shrinked sealed wax boxes of
    	91 Donrus being sold for $15 each, and some dealers were already selling
    	card singles.

    	I also have enough duplicates to make about 90% of a second set,
    	and I did get duplicates of the checklists. I have to agree with
    	the previous comment made about the "soft" focus look of the cards.
    	Some cards had the edges not cut right, and the top layer sort of
    	peeling off.

    	I did not find any of the "Elite" or the "Living Legend" series cards.

    I purchased one box plus got a few packs for Christmas and I have to

    I've been reading all the replies in this note and It's amazing
    how all these cards are supposed to be rare. I read the one about
    the dealer flying them in,the one about the dealer being alloted
    1 case,but he has a connection for more when he needs them. I
    think that this is a bunch of B__l s__t. If you collectors want
    them they are very plentiful at B.J.'s in Salem,N.H.,and they cost
    $12.98 per/box,and you can also get Proset Series II football for
    only $11.98. I still haven't seen anything on the Elite Cards,as
    I mentioned in an earlier note,I have Doug Drabek,and a friend of
    mine has Cecil Fielder. Becketts has no mention of them,and a few
    card shops that I go to say that they haven't seen,or heard anything
    about them.

    B.J.'s also has the Proset 25th year Silver Aniversary special
    Edition cards for only $6.28.
    The box is Silver with the Super Bowl XXV Logo on both sides.
