181.1please explain SportsnetAKOV13::GASPARONIFri Sep 14 1990 11:225
john, could you explain this SportsNet system to me, how it works, and
how to access it. I've heard of it before on the file, but never
wanted to ask. I'll pay $300 for a Ray Porque card, who is he?? You
know, thats a great idea. Imagine pulling that off.

I would like to address to a few of the questions raised in the first
couple of notes. I am NOT on Sportsnet and never will be!!!!!
It is the biggest rip-off since the Brinx's job. To follow are
    my answers/opinions on the subject.

    >>> Does anyone in here access SportsNet and exactly how does it work ?

John was right, it is a notesfile for dealers. However I do question
their ethics in dealing very strongly. As long as you have an alias
and money you can get an account. Then you may run amuck as you like.
    Pretty crazy, uh?

    >>> It seems to me that to a certain extent this type of network could lead
    >>> to unethical behavior, price gouging and fixing and so forth.

Oh sure, it happens all the time and maybe more than you think. I do
have a dealer friend (OK, I play softball with him), who owns a shop,
that is on the net and he does quite well with it. He is a reasonable
guy, outside of cards, but he once told me "business is business".
What they have is a non-moderator notesfile. There is no checks, the
notes/replies are deleted after becoming one week old, other than that
there is no control of what is typed. It is really crazy!

    >>> I know many times at shows, dealers will quote you a price on some card
    >>> based on what they heard in SportsNet. While I'm sure SportsNet has
    >>> it's good points, it seems that it could be abused also.

Abused! I would say that is a great word to describe Sportsnet.
If a dealer says that to me at show, I laugh and take my $$$ elsewhere,
and that does mean away from my friends' shop, too.

Now, please don't get me wrong, if my cards go up then I'm real happy
but I do not want them to go because of some type of hype. I try not
to let that happen, and in the past if I have sold cards in here
because of hype, I am sorry and will by them back at the price I sold
them for. BTW, as a few of you know I am no saint and will never
to profess to be, but that Ray Bourke error looks real great to me.

No John, I think SportsNet needs someone like Tony Daniele to be their
conscience. Could you imagine Tony tied into these folks? :-)

Isn't this interesting. Folks who have never seen, used, or otherwise
interfaced with Sportsnet have condemned it's supposed purpose,
censured it's user base, prescribed the remedy and proposed a change
in staffing. Arn't you the same folks who characterize dealers as
    arogant and insensitive. Most curious.

ERROR CARD, WERE DID YOU GET THAT PRICE.......
I only paid 25$ for mine Sunday, but then again I have
the best dealer in Mass. with the best prices.
He's in it for a profit, but not greed and has been doing
it that way for 10+ years.
Every Sat. + Sun. he is at the Avon Industrail park's fleemarket.

I got the price from note 174.12 and was only kidding. Guess I
forgot to include smiley face. Sorry if I shook you up.

Is SPORTSNET compatible to a VT-125 and a Scholar-2400 modem?

    Thanks in advance!
