159.4 | Wonder Bread Cards | AKOV13::GASPARONI | | Wed Aug 01 1990 14:39 | 4 |
| Anyone see any of those Wonder Bread cards over the past two months??
No logos on either the hat or the uniform, but they put all the stars
in the set. Think they will ever be worth anything??

I don't know if they'll be worth anything but I only need
card #5 to complete the set. Does anyone have an extra ?
I have many dups & trips to trade for one !
I was buying day old bread just to get the cards,
the neighborhood didn't buy bread for a month. 8-)
I don't think I'll do it on the Pepsi,I'm not that much of a
Hi-Roller.

159.7 | Who is #5 ?????? | EBBV03::MONDALTO | | Thu Aug 02 1990 11:31 | 5 |
| I never thought of looking on the bottom of the loaf
to see who was in the set. Anyone have an old loaf that
they want to trade for a new loaf... ; )

159.8 | $3.00 buys you a whole sheet of Wonder Stars | AKOV13::GASPARONI | | Thu Aug 02 1990 12:18 | 12 |
| Did anyone see the fine print on the bread bag. For three bucks, you
could send away, with 5 upc symbols, and get the whole set, uncut
sheet. I thought it was a good deal and did it. I'll see if there are
still making the offer. I know that there was a deadline. I thought
the set was pretty colorful. I think the Post Cereal set is going to
be a tough one to put together. I noticed one of the noters was real
close in completing the cereal set, I think he is going to have a real
winner in that one someday. You can only eat so much Alphabets or
Sugur Smacks before you turn into a box of cereal. That may be a good
one to look for at shows, like the Nissen Bread set a year ago. I've
seen that one selling for $20 around the Metrowest area, and don't see
it outside of New England, it must be a regional set to some extent.

159.9 | I like them! | RAYBOK::DAMIANO | The mark of the beast | Thu Aug 02 1990 13:07 | 25 |
| I sent away for the sheet, too. The deadline was 8/31/90, or "while
supplies last". We'll see if I get one, I just sent it in last week.
I only have Mitchell and Clark right now, so if anyone has dups they
want to sell (or trade for non-wonderbread cards) I'm very interested.
I was able to complete the Post cereal set, and it looks nice. The Ryne
Sandberg card was a bitch to find, But the set looks real nice and I
think it was worth the trouble to find. For what it's worth, I didn't
eat too much of the cereal, I got sick of it real fast. I mostly forced
it on the nieghborhood kids for lunch, and I got *alot* of help trading
dups with some of you fellow noters. Thanks again! BTW, someone told me
that they saw this set offered in SCD for $50.00.
Another set I finished is the "Jumbo California Sunflower Seeds" set.
This may be a regional as a few of you I spoke with haven't seen it out
East, but it's a nice set too. Same idea as Post and wonderbread, a
collection of different stars and no logos. What was interesting was
that it was Ryne Sandberg again that was hard to find. Maybe we should
start stockpiling Ryno cards!8^)
Anyway, send mail if you want to sell any of your extra Wonderbread
cards, I'd like to get a set, too.

159.10 | Spags has Classic Sets and DR boxes for sale | AKOV13::GASPARONI | | Fri Aug 03 1990 14:32 | 19 |
| If the Post Cereal set is $50 already, you know its going to be hard to
find around, and should only go up in price. John, you made a good
worth while investment in that one. Look at the 60's sets of Post,
there going sky high. Those regional sets are good investments, hope
I get my wonder bread set also. Where do you live?? I haven't seen
that set around here yet.
Spags has a lot of cards for sale, especially the Classic card sets,
with Neon Deion Sanders and Nolan Ryan in the sets. They are selling
for $11.99. I over heard a guy telling another guy this is $20 cheaper
than the price on T.V. Also, they had wax boxes of DR, looked like
last year, they have the Stan Musial Puzzle in them for $14.99 per
box for sale, along with The Senior Stars Sets for $7.99 and the
buttons and coins for sale, the new fangle stuff, all pretty cheap if
anyone is interested. Sorry Roy if this is the wrong place for this,
but I wanted to let everyone know that Spags has some good stuff for
sale, and they also have those Grab bags for $2.99 with all sorts of
cards in them. They are fun to open up for the price. Never know when
you may find a gem??

159.14 | Long John Silvers | MSDOA::CUZZONE | Warning! Aliens approaching! | Tue Aug 14 1990 16:28 | 14 |
| Roy, move this if it's covered elsewhere.
Is the Long John Silver's baseball superstars set generally available?
I picked up set #3 of 8 the other day. The requirement is a fish
dinner/large coke purchase. There are 5 cards in the pack and they are
not Topps/Fleer/Upper Deck/Score. They have logos and are generally
nice looking cards. I'm worried that I may have missed sets 1 and 2.
The girl behind the counter wasn't too helpful when I asked.
I'll be back there this week for set #4 (assuming it's a weekly issue).
If not, I'll have to negotiate for all 8 sets. 8 fish dinners are
about all the fried seafood I care to eat in a year.

FYI If you are interested, series two Leaf Set has been released.
lots of Rookies and updates etc. The dealers are price gouging
this one to death. Saw them priced from $50 to $100 a box.
If any one is collecting these, I need about 24 cards in the
300's. Let's trade.

159.18 | I'll sell you pre rookies $100 apiece!! | WRKSYS::SCHWARTZ | | Fri Sep 14 1990 11:59 | 7 |
|
Last night I saw a box of cards (880 cards to complete the set) called
the Pre-Rookies. It looked to me like a very large collection of minor
league players. Looks like somebody, namely MLB, is trying to start a
new fad and get a valuable high demand set by getting a collection of
possible major leaguers together. Anyone know about this or have seen
the cards? ....Thoughts?????

| I remember reading in the Globe that his son was making it in baseball,
but not by playing...but by dealing in sportscards, memorabelia, etc.
I think there was even a picture of the son...
Beyond that, I can't say...
My first reaction to the news item was that he had teamed with his son
to produce a new product (but that was purely my speculation)
