126.0. ""Daydreamin" ..." by SA1794::DANIELET () Thu Mar 29 1990 14:29

	If I ever hit the lottery "big", I'm gonna quit my illustrious job
at DEC and become a "big time" card dealer. If I did, I'd put all the card
dealers in the area out of business. Guaranteed ! How ? Simple. I'd treat
my customers the way they should be treated ... with respect and dignity. I'd
treat my "nickel and dime" customers the same as I treat customers with $100
bills sticking out of their pockets. If some unknowledgeable customer asked me
a simple question, I would not belittle them and make them feel stupid. I would
sell my cards at a fair price, and would frequently give cards away to kids who
come to my store. Parents and kids would trust me and love to do business at
my store. I would not allow the mass purchase of anything I sold, thus discour-
aging dealers in collectors clothing from buying up what I would rather sell to
the kids. I would also strongly discourage buying cards for investment. I
would encourage people to collect what they like. That way no matter what the
prices do, they would still enjoy it. Customers wouldn't have to "haggle" with
me because my prices would be the lowest around. I would reward kids by giving
them free cards for a good report card. I'd let kids put cards on layaway ...
and if the price happens to go up a little ... big deal. A kids smile and a
parents thank you would be my biggest profits !

126.4Still Looking for that 52T MM, Mint!AKOV12::GASPARONIFri Mar 30 1990 14:5020
    Hope you guys are right about the drop in across the board prices.
    I'll be able to finish off my MM run of cards, and won't have to take
    out that 3rd Mortgage I was planning on doing to buy them. Sounds just
    wonderful to me!!
    The yard sales are starting up again, and I'm still looking for that
    52T Mint Mickey Mantle for $1.00. I daydream about it everyday, I'm
    looking at this table full of junk, and suddenly, there IT is!! The
    52T MM sitting there for $1.00. And I say to the lady, I'll give you
    .50$ and she says, OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it, .50$.
    Only in America and on this notes file, can you daydream like this.
    As long as there are young kids in America, Baseball card collecting
    will be hot. The only thing that could kill it would be that it gets
    to expensive for the kids, and this is what we'er here for, to keep
    the integerity of the hobby intact, and to flush out and destroy any
    dealers who try to destroy the vision that was born into this hobby.
    If anyone knows any dealers who are not living up to the code of ethics
    which we have been placed upon them, turn their names over to the guns
    and weapons notes file moderator, and those trigger happy basta_ds will
    dispose of them with out a trace, so that when the wind blows, the
    holes in them will be singing dixey!!
126.5Who's that kid battin against Ford?ASDS::KELLYTue Apr 03 1990 15:5814
    I can still see the small Black and White picture on the TV. I
    couldn't notice then that the players seem to run with short steps
    and their legs moved very fast. I remember that the 1/2 inning
    when the shadow crossed the mound was very exciting. Bats
    produced an unmistakable sound, players always smiled and looked
    uneasy in front of the camera. Allen and Scully could paint
    the play we all were making as their words came from the speaker.
    I knew then I could hit those Dam Yankee pitchers if only the managers
    of the Bums sent me up to hit. No helmut, no batting glove, no
    spikes, - I could take Ford- any of them- downtown- To Brooklyn.
    Can you recall- electrical tape on the balls, searching the weeds
    for a lost ball.
    This time Da Bums will win the pennant!

126.7Spare me the age B.S. This dog can hunt!ASDS::KELLYWed Apr 04 1990 10:337
    I was into other things in 55 ( jail ). The last mint set I put
    together was 53 Topps. My personal favorite. Yes Its mint, every F'in
    one.
    Bio note for future slams-Jail was because I was a dealer that
    had jacked up prices on little red wagons using the state of the art
    technology- Wagon Net

126.8Yo Mike ...SA1794::DANIELETWed Apr 04 1990 13:226
    	.. yesterday afternoon I was found on the floor of my office
    in the "fetal" position (ala Jim Baker 8^) as a result of your
    note. Today ? I'm fully recovered, but a little confused. Also,
    my S10 turnip truck is in the shop today. Water pump. Oh well...
