114.0. "Recommendations on Selling" by USMFG::ASESIA (Aldo Sesia) Mon Feb 26 1990 13:28

    I have about 8 complete sets of 85 topps baseball cards. I'd like
    to sell them all at once but I am not sure how to go about it.
    I stopped into a card dealer's store and he said he'd give me half
    book. I took this to mean $50 seeing they are worth around $100
    (I think). Is this the best way for me to go or is there another
    way I can the true value in return? The way I figure it the demand
    for cards simply cannot continue at the level it has so timing
    would seem key.  Any thoughts.

114.1Run an add...RAYBOK::DAMIANODo it now, do it well, do it twiceMon Feb 26 1990 16:2912
    That's about the best you'll do from a dealer. If that give's you a
    reasonable profit margin, then it might be the easiest thing to do.
    You might want to post them here in the for sale note, you never know.
    You might also want to check out Sports Collector's Digest, or other
    hobby publications. There are many people who, like me, comb the ads
    looking for below dealer prices on items we want. Last time I checked
    the charge for placing an add was reasonable.

    Good luck,

114.2Try a Card ShowAKOV12::GASPARONIThu Mar 01 1990 16:427

    I would also try selling them at a card show. Get a couple other guys
    to go in with you, to sell off some other peoples unwanted sets or
    cards, so you have a good inventory of items, and price them slightly
    under book, $95 or so, and you should get some good offers, plus it
    should be fun selling at a show. Thats a hot year, lots of Rookies,
    and it should sell pretty well.
114.3Try share-a-saleTOOTER::COOPERMANFri Mar 02 1990 09:0810
    It's not so easy to get a table at an established show, so maybe try to
    share space with someone who gets a table or ask some dealer if they'd
    be interested in selling them for you at a show. You could work out
    some kind of revenue sharing arrangement, maybe even take it to
    arbitration.

    Try advertising in SCD in the classifieds. Ads there are cheap and
    you'll see what kindof interest there is.

    I'd be willing to buy one but not all five sets....
    I'm interested in buying any other topps sets you have.
