John, Plenty of shops in and around the HOF. I was there last summer for the Yaz induction. At that time, hotels were hard to come by, I started dialing the morning after the announcement in Jan and finally got 2 rooms about 20 miles north of Cooperstown. Everything else was booked solid. If you go any other time, I doubt you'll have a problem with lodging and there are some very nice hotels and motels right in town. I did manage to check out a few shops while I was there, but since there were lines to get into all of them, I passed a few by. Check out America's Pastime and The Cooperstown Bat Co. The Cooperstown Diner is tiny, but serves up a great breakfast. Daryll

My wife and I stayed at a very nice bed and breakfast just outside the city. Call the chamber of commerce. If this type of accommodation is your style, there are some available. I don't remember their name but might if you gave me a list to choose from. The people were very nice and our room was fine. Enjoy yourself. I can't imagine buying baseball cards in Cooperstown though. If there's any place they'd throw away the book, that would be it. michael
104.5 | 1990 Spring Trip is Being planned. | AKOV12::GASPARONI | Tue Feb 13 1990 16:31 | 18
There was an Digital trip to Cooperstown last October, 1989 that I planned and we are scheduling another I beleive this spring, because of the large response to last years trip. Two buses or 92 people went, the only problems I noted, and I did discuss this with Barbara Davis who heads up the Corp. Employee travel dept. that time was very short when we finally got there. To really spend sometime reading and walking around all the different levels, the side show, in the auditorium was just great, you feel like your one of the fans in the stands, it a real nice light show, also shows Baseball cards in the sky of your favorite players, HOF's and a short little flick of 1975 World series with Bench and Fisk hitting their famous homeruns. But you need more than 4 hours to see all that. Nice little shop to buy a memento or two, and the card shops, sport memorabilia shops have as much in them as the HOF. I went wild up their. Also don't forget to see DD Field behind the Hall, and Cooperstown Bat Co., if your lucky, he will be making a bat in the window. This year, I beleive we are going to run a 2 day trip, first stop to Basketball HOF, and then spend the nite in Cooperstown and then back. Has potential if the price is right?
