Ditto. Al Drake is out there too. Like you said in a personal
message to me, when things like this happen baseball cards don't
seem that important anymore. Hope to hear from those guys soon.

    Greetings,

Thank all of you for your thoughts and wishes. I was at the park
when we had the "event". Although it was fairly bad, I'm sure you
guys on the East Coast are hearing and seeing the worst. I was on
    the second (top) deck of the 'stick, and it shook pretty good;
However, we honestly didn't think it was that big of a deal. It
wasn't until we heard the reports of damage and loss of life on
the radio that we realized that we were very lucky that the stadium
did not collapse. After all, it was 30 minutes to game time, and
the place was packed ( approx. 62,000). I did manage to get a couple
of programs on the way out, though! 8^)

I don't know what people heard about or saw in regards to the game,
but there was absolutley no panick in the stands. I didn't see
one person so much as jog to the exits. The evacuation was orderly
and without incident. There were, however, reports of a few heart
attacks, and I did see two or three ambulances on the field. It
    will, I'm sure, be a while before the 'stick is opened to the public;
The structural inspections will take time, and I'm sure the city's
civil engineers have higher priorities that a baseball park.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. By the way, how did
    it look on T.V.?

                     WORLD SERIES UPDATE

The tenative schedule for the remaining games of the World Series
    is:

Game 3 Tuesday October 24 Candlestick Park
Game 4 Wednesday October 25 Candlestick Park
Game 5 (if nec) Thursday October 26 Candlestick Park
Game 6 (if nec) Saturday October 28 Oakland Coliseum
Game 7 (if nec) Sunday October 29 Oakland Coliseum

Fay Vincent, The Commissioner, has stated that if the S.F. Police
give the guarantee that adequade security can be provided, then
the Series will continue on Tuesday. If not, an alternative will
    be discussed at that time.

Candlestick Park did suffer some minor damage, however, some minor
repairs will be done and the park will ready. The Forty-Niner vs.
New England Patriots game on Sunday at Candlestick Park is still
up in the air. There is a chance the game will be moved to Stanford
    Stadium.

The Oakland Coliseum suffered no damage.

It was indeed a tragedy for victims, friends, relatives, or just
lovers of the city, but I can't agree with Boston Globe writer Bob
Ryan's suggestion to call off the series. He reasons that if the
A's were more emotionally upset by the quake and the Giants were
to come back and win it, it wouldn't be fair. Get a brain, Bob.
And how many sporting events were called off for hurricane Hugo,
Chernobyl, Bopal, or even the recent schoolbus crash in Texas?

Now, to relate this back to Sports Memorabilia, how is Fleer going
to handle this for their annual World Series subset? Game 3 - False
Start! With a photo of Al Michaels looking startled as the upper
deck (oops- shouldn't mention upper decks in this note) starts to
bob under him like a diving board. Somewhere, somehow, this will
be dealt with (i.e. exploited) in a "collectible" that someone will
pay money for. Probably the Rose scandal and Giamatti's death as
well. SLAP!!!!! Thanks. I needed that.

I don't know about cards, but there are already "collectibles"
around town. Speculation is that any ticket stubs for game 3 will
be worth hanging on to. How's that for cashing in?

The pieces of concrete that fell from Candlestick, get Canseco, Clark
and Mitchell to sign them, people will pay.

I'm back! My place got pretty trashed. My closet was knee deep in
baseball cards and hats and I lost some wine and 'pagne, but every-
thing is getting back to normal. I was telling Tony that the biggest
mess is in the accounting office at the San Jose Jet Center where
all the network ambulance chasers were hanging out. Not to mention
all the Corporate jets that flew in- including DEC's $35mil G-3!
They even bought $10K worth of fuel. Must be nice. We were closed
in Cupertino Wed & Thurs, but aside from ceiling tiles and cracked
sheet rock, the place held up. Better than the Mervyn's department
store I went into last night. What a wreck! the whole t-bar ceiling
grid was buckled. Wards got flexed pretty good too, lots of facia
sheet rock damage. Not to be a hard case or nothin but those merchants
in Santa Cruz had it coming! The city told the developers to fit
up the mall with siesmic bracing and everyone cried foul. "Historical
buildings" they claimed. Well we all know how historical they are
    now....
On a lighter note, I heard on the radio that the price of the
Game 3 ticket stub is now at $100! Some people were actually selling
them outside for face value after the evacuation. I guess they thought
that was it for the year and the wanted to get rid of them and forget
    about it.
They say the stairs have been patched but I think thats a little
like filling a dent with bondo, next time it'll just fall out again.
They'll be hard pressed to pass the vote on the new stadium in two
weeks. You can just call em the Santa Clara Giants.

A guy called the radio station to say he went down to the Boardwalk
in Santa Cruz to view the damage and the place was pretty messed
up, except for the metal milk bottles that you throw baseballs at.
They were still standing and stacked!
