77.0. "Reprint sets!" by AQUA::FIRMANI () Wed Jun 28 1989 16:00

I would like opinions and information about reprint sets.
Some of the older card sets are very expensive and I could
never afford to buy them unless I win megabucks sometime soon,
so I started tossing the idea around about reprint sets.
Someone told me that reprint sets are not printed by the same
company so they are not using the same plates and therefore are
really just a picture of a picture. Is this true for all reprint
sets or are there some that are reprinted from the original plates?
Also, are the cards made from similar stock?
If they are just a picture of a picture, how is the quality?
Has anyone had any experience with the 1952 Topps reprint set?

    Any info would be appreciated!

Would anyone know where I can get singles for the 1952 Topps reprint
set? I need about 25 cards (all commons) to complete the set.

Thanks in advance for the help, Roger Negri

77.31933 Goudey Reprint Error!LUNER::FIRMANIThu Jun 18 1992 13:0012
I recently puchased the 1933 Goudey Reprint set and found that cards
#36 and #189 both had card #30's info incorrectly printed on the back.
The pictures on the front are of the correct players, but the backs of
the cards are incorrect. Does anyone have the 33 Goudey reprint set,
and if so does your set have the same problem?

    Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Mike, I'll check mine at home to see if they had that problem.

Mike, I checked my set. I knew there were problems with two cards,
but couldn't remember what they were. Anyway, the company I got the
set from had a note in the set that says:

There are no cards of #36 and #189. There are two cards of #63. The
card of Joe Cronin (shown fielding) should be card #189. Card #30
with Thevenow on the front should be card #36.

I looked at the cards and this was the case, but it sounds like the
set you have has backs of #30 only on both cards.

    John,

I made a mistake when I entered my previous note. The Thevenow card has
#30 on the back, but the Cronin has #63 on the back just like your note
says. I guess the set I have is a complete set after all. I guess I got
a good deal. I only paid $13 for the set because the dealer I bought it
from thought it was missing two cards. I believe this set is going for
around $40, so it's about time I finally got a good deal from a dealer.

Thanks for checking for me John!

You're welcome ... and I still thank you on the good deal you gave me
on the '75 Topps set a couple of years ago ;-)

I have quite a few reprint sets .... Goudy's from the 30s
    				      Bowman's from late 40s and early 50s
    					(Baseball, Hockey, & Football)
    				      Playball, Tobacco, etc

I had ordered some sets from Larry Fritsch ... then I went right to the
    printer:

		Card Collector's Company
		105 West 77 Street
		New York, New York 10014

For $1 they'll send you their latest catalog ... last version (about 3
month ago) had a deal ... 100 bucks off reprint orders of $300 or more.
