49.0. "Topps Coin Sets (Baseball)" by LDYBUG::HUNT (Modern Day Warrior) Thu Jul 14 1988 15:01

At lunch today, I bought a package of three 1988 Topps baseball
coins. They look A LOT like the 1987 coins. The fronts are similar
except there are little stars by the players names. The backs are
identical except for the copyright date.

The insert offers a Topps Baseball coin holder for 5 wrappers and
$1.75. Notice that while the holder doesn't say "1988" on it, the
holder wouldn't work for last years set due to the difference in
the size of the sets. 1988 has 60 coins and I believe the 1987
    coins had only 48.

Does anyone know anything about these yet? And how are the prices
for the 1987 sets holding out?

    -Russell

    I'll trade a 1987 coin set for a 1988 coin set.

What no Incaviglia? I wouldn't touch them with a 10' pole. The
nerve of some of these companies!

I bought 5 wax packs down at the Cape last week, I luckily wound
up with Boggs and Clemens. Also one of the packs had 2 Will Clarks.
Two out of three coins the same it doesn't seem fair.

Can someone tell me where you can buy plastic coin sheets similar
to the plastic sheets used for cards? Or do they even make them?

    Thanks

They do make them, either 20 or 30 to the 8.5 x 11 page. You can
probably get them easiest at a regular coin shop. They may cost you
$.50 to $1.00 per page, depending on the greed of the owner.

Thanks. I picked some up at the Dunbar shop in Marlboro. They aren't
really desined for baseball coins but it'll do the trick.

Is there much interest out there in Salada/Topps coins? I am going
to try and shop them around. I have about 1/2 of the collection
(including Mantle and Drysdale) and they are in great shape. I am
heading up to the show in Salem NH Sunday to check around for Dealers
interested in coins, if they even exist.

A co-worker of mine has quite a few Topps baseball "coins".

The ones listed below are 1964 all stars.
They include:

Mickey Mantle
Willie Mays
Dick Groate
Frank Robinson
Warren Spahn
Whitey Ford
Joe Torre
Ron Santo
YAZ
Jim Fregosi

He'd like some idea of their value.

Thanks,
Rick
